Must be competant in: Phlebotomy, Dressings, INR's, Long Term Conditions/Health Checks, Blood Pressure also willing to learn injections and grow the role within the team.

Healthcare Assistant

The healthcare Assistant role within Charnwood Community Medical Group exists to provide clinical assistance with routine procedures involving unsupervised process or clinically supervised procedures that require interpretive skills that would fall outside the scope of the individual healthcare Assistant's training or experience.

Direct patient care is the responsibility of the Partners who will determine what a Healthcare

Assistant can or cannot do according to their individual training and experience.

Professional

Healthcare Assistants work directly under the management of the Partners through the Practice

Management Team and are therefore expected to work in a way that is collaborative and supportive to other colleagues but not to exceed the role defined by the Partners.

Support and guidance should be requested when any clinical situation arises that is unclear or where input from qualified personnel is required.

Clinical

Clinical activities will be required to reflect the current needs of the practice in respect of clinics for long term conditions management, assistance with procedures carried out by healthcare professionals and clinics resulting from national or local initiatives.

The degree of supervision within each clinic will be determined by the partners alongside consideration around the level of skill required for the activity.

Medicines can be administered by healthcare assistants under a patient Specific Direction or under direct supervision of a healthcare Professional.

- In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately
- In the performance of the duties outlined in this job description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the practice

**Job Description**:

Health & safety

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others’ health, safety and security as defined in the practice health & safety policy and the practice infection control policy and published procedures. This will include:

- Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines
- Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
- Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
- Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
- Actively reporting of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised
- Keeping own work areas and general / patient areas generally clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holder’s role
- Reporting potential risks identified
