**Job Title: Café Supervisor**
**Reports to: Community Centre Manager**
**Management Responsibility: Yes**
**Salary: £10-12 per hour dependent on experience**
**Hours: Typically 24 hrs per week, 8.30am - 4.30 pm (including Fridays and weekends)**
**Location : Sherburn Hill Hub**
**Contract Type: Part Time/Permanent**
**Job Purpose**:
Sherburn Hill Hub (SHH) is charity focused on providing a high-quality community focused business and recreation space to the people of Sherburn Hill and surrounding areas. Ensuring our work is directed by the voices of the community.
The café supervisor will manage the operation of our 5-star hygiene rated community café supported by paid and volunteer staff. Working in collaboration with the other café supervisor. Creating a welcoming environment for all, the café will provide a healthy, affordable and quality menu for the local community and groups using The Hub.
In collaboration with The Hub Manager when and where required, provide café administrative support, key-holding duties and supervision of junior staff and volunteers to ensure suitable development opportunity and satisfaction in their role.
The café supervisor will have a love of food, demonstrated with good presentation skills, imaginative menu and daily specials creation.
Support the Centre Manager in planning, implementing, and delivering their business plans and staying focused on making the café profitable through food and beverage sales and by minimizing shrinkage. Being innovative to maximise the use of the café including making arrangements for staffing when the café is open out of normal hours to support events.
Establish and develop healthy eating initiatives to build awareness and contribute to positive wellbeing within the community; both through the café, along with running extra training, courses, projects and developing partnerships with local services.
**Key Accountabilities**
General Duties
- To cook a limited but high quality, ‘made from fresh’ hot food and baked goods.
- To update and refresh the café offer seasonally.
- To ensure the cafe operation (opening, closing, service and security) is operated in line with procedures.
- To ensure all cafe storage, service, stock and production areas are consistently clean and tidy and that the appropriate documentation is maintained.
- To ensure the cafe is fully stocked at the start of service and to reconcile stock back to sales the previous day using EPOS reports.
- To ensure the dressing, appearance and presentation of the cafe throughout service is of a consistently high standard and that excellent levels of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained at all times.
- To ensure high standards of customer service at all times and to be an exemplar for the team in excellent customer service delivery.
- To compile weekly rotas for a team of volunteer Cafe Assistants, ensuring the efficient and effective use of resources.
- Working with the Centre Manager, to ensure that appropriate planning and preparation is undertaken for seasons and events.
Food Management
- To manage the ordering of all provisions (food, beverage, cleaning, and disposables) as required and in line with financial procedures.
- To ensure the recording and disposal of damaged or out of date food accordingly and ensure the safe disposal of all refuse from the cafe.
- Undertaking weekly stock-takes.
- Providing weekly sales and purchasing figures.
- Adhering to set Gross Margin to ensure café profitability & sustainability.
- Putting a supply system in place to ensure stock control and efficient stock management.
Health and Safety
- Adhere fully to CookSafe guidelines using HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) based procedures according to most recent government regulations.
- Implement, update and manage CookSafe guidelines for the HUB in line with existing policies ensuring healthy and safe preparation, storage, cooking and serving of food and drink from the café.
- To ensure the taking of cash, the recording of sales and till reconciliation is all carried out in line with financial procedures and any other written and verbal communications.
- To cash up daily takings in preparation for banking in line with procedures.
- To ensure a safe and secure working environment is maintained for all employees and customers by ensuring adherence to relevant Health and Safety legislation and procedures.
- To ensure all Environmental Health regulations are met in the management and operation of the cafe.
- To ensure all due diligence paperwork is correctly maintained, for e.g., temperature records taken for refrigerators, stock is correctly rotated dated and labelled etc.
Volunteers
- To supervise volunteer Cafe Assistants in their duties ensuring all service and operating procedures are followed.
