Legal Assistant

**How you'll make a difference**:

Joining a professional team of Solicitors and Legal Assistants within the Legal Services Division, you will make a difference by providing professional support and assistance to the children and adults (social care) legal team under the direction of our highly experienced solicitors.

**What will you be doing?**
- On a daily basis you will support a busy team of solicitors to ensure the effective delivery of social care legal work for the Council.
- As a point of contact for other service departments, you will be required to respond to requests for advice and assistance as directed by the appropriate Team Manager.
- You will undertake case preparation on public law, private law and other child and/or adult social care cases. You will also liaise with a range of professionals including social workers, solicitors, barristers’ chambers, barristers, police, and court officers.
- In the role you will process requests for information, collate large volumes of documentation for court bundles, and manage administrative tasks after court hearings. This may include e-filing orders, obtaining sealed orders and actioning court directions under the guidance of the case holder.
- Depending on your legal experience you may have case holding responsibility, as allocated by your line manager.

**What we need from you**:

- You will be educated to degree level with a law degree or equivalent or Fellow of ILEX.
- It is preferential that you have either completed or started the LPC or equivalent.
- It will be an advantage for you to have some knowledge or experience of social care law and general court process.
- We require you to be able to work as part of a team under pressure within tight timescales and have the ability to build and maintain positive working arrangements with colleagues, clients and all other relevant parties.
- You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as excellent organisational and IT skills.
