40 hours per week, (7.30 am - 16.00 pm) on a rota

Redwings Horse Sanctuary requires a Farm Hand to join our dedicated team at our Hapton Head Quarters, on a permanent contract.

**Job Purpose**

This role is providing support on operational tasks within the Norfolk farms, predominantly at Hapton, by assisting with tractor and land works.

The postholder will play a proactive role to ensure we provide the best possible environment and care for our horses. They will need to demonstrate best practice in health and safety over the maintaining and operating of field equipment and machinery.

They will also be required to be vigilant regarding pasture health and use of paddocks, and through training provided have basic equine awareness to recognise a sick or lame horse whilst going about their duties.

**Principle Duties and Responsibilities**

To be tasked from work plans created by the Hapton Farm manager and Operations Manager, duties include:

- To communicate daily with the Hapton Leadership Team and Operations Manager
- To aid the Hapton farm team with daily routine tasks involving the driving of machinery for tasks such as, muck sweeper, pad scraping, clearing shelters, muck carting
- To assist with the manual paddock muck clearance, to include the use of the paddock hoover.
- To assist with the forage runs as required.
- To assist with the movement of forage and feed stocks between Norfolk sites
- To undertake paddock and land maintenance through, harrowing, rolling, sub-soiling, slotting/ aerating, overseeding.
- To have vigilance in reporting and management of poisonous plants and trees harmful to equines, through assistance with manual clearance and knapsack or quad spraying as part of the land management plan set out by the Operations Manager
- To support keeping the site tidy of weeds through use of the strimmer and lawnmower
- To set up and maintain electric fencing (mains, battery and solar)
- To carry out minor repairs to post and rail fencing
- To complete daily inspection checks on vehicles and machinery ensuring these are well maintained and any defects reported
- To update records and information held on a database
