1.8.1 General Information. The music director shall provide personnel, equipment, materials, supervision, transport, and other items and services necessary to perform duties as the RAF Croughton Musical Director. The government will provide sheet music. Sensitivity and respect for all faith groups will be maintained. The music director shall provide all music, musical planning, coordination, and directing for the Religious Services at the RAF Croughton Chapel. Additionally, the music director shall provide service for all special holy day observances and holiday services per para 2.3. of this JOB DESCRIPTION.
The music director will provide music for choir and band rehearsals and additional unscheduled services as necessary, including, but not limited to, funerals, memorial services, special chapel functions, and music workshops.
1.8.2. Area of Performance. The accomplishment of the results contained in this JOB DESCRIPTION requires performance at RAF Croughton Chapel; however, events may be conducted at various locations on the installation.
1.8.3. Description of Services.
1.8.3.1. The music director is responsible for leading the music at all Sunday services at the RAF Croughton Chapel. Normal services consist of approximately 20 minutes of music during the course of a typical one hour Worship Service. The music director is responsible for making sure that all music selections are input into the chapel audiovisual program for display during Sunday services. The music director shall direct and lead a wide range of musical selections to include traditional or contemporary styles, all of which will be tailored to meet the worship and liturgical needs of the particular service.
1.8.3.2. The music director is responsible for directing weekly choir rehearsals. The standard rehearsal duration is 60 minutes. The music director is liable for scheduling chapel facilities for rehearsals with the NCOIC of Chapel Operations and shall maintain rehearsal areas neat and presentable. The music director shall provide the NCOIC of Chapel Operations with a monthly schedule of rehearsal dates and times.
1.8.3.3. The music director shall coordinate all rehearsals and lead the music for all special services, as identified within Appendix II.Special services, which are services that are considered to be holy or special to the specified faith group.Normal special services consist of approximately 20 minutes of music.
1.8.3.4. The music director shall be present 45 minutes prior to service to rehearse with the praise team, as well as to coordinate any last minute service details. The music director is responsible for the setup and teardown of all equipment, materials, and supplies necessary for use during service and rehearsals. Areas used will

be appropriately secured upon completion. In the case of service cancellation, the music director will be given at a minimum, a 24-hour notice of the scheduled service cancellation.
1.8.3.5. The music director is responsible for selecting volunteers to perform in the chapel band/choir.
1.8.4. Hours of Operation.
1.8.4.1. Sunday services are currently held at 1100 local time. If special events or regular services are scheduled on a US Federal Holiday, they will be performed IAW the JOB DESCRIPTION at no additional cost to the government.
1.8.4.2. Due to the nature of the special services or events, the music director services may be required outside of normal hours of operations.
1.8.5. Qualifications.
1.8.5.1. The music director, at a minimum shall have 2 years of past experience playing in or leading music groups, bands, or choirs.
1.8.5.2. Be able to sing and vocally lead congregation in worship to include leading volunteer members of the worship team.
1.8.5.3. Be able to play either the guitar, piano or utilize backing tracks in the performance of a music service.
1.8.5.4. Be able to plan, organize and lead a contemporary Protestant style praise team.
1.8.5.5. Have a working knowledge of chord charts, lead sheets and sheet music. Be able to provide the correct music in the correct key to members of the worship team.
1.8.5.6. Sing music in keeping with a Protestant, contemporary style, music service.
1.8.5.7. Possess the ability to develop and maintain a healthy and positive relationship with volunteers.
1.8.5.8. Be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English in order to perform all responsibilities outlined within the JOB DESCRIPTION.
