Locum Consultant in Ophthalmology

Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Ophthalmology for an initial fixed term of 6 months which may be extended by mutual consent. Applicants should have a specialist interest in General and Neuro Ophthalmology. An interest in Cataract Surgery is also desirable. The post is a temporary post and is full time with an indicative 10 PA job plan although consideration will be given to applicants wishing to work less than full time. The succesful applicant will join a team of 20 consultants and the post will be predominantly worked from Sunderland Eye Infirmary (SEI) with some requirement for delivery of peripheral clinics in Durham, Hartlepool and South Tyneside.

SEI is a nationally and internationally renowned ophthalmic unit providing a wide range of procedures in addition to some specialist procedures. SEI currently provides a 24/7 accident and emergency service and has one ward with 21 beds, 2 dedicated cataract theatres, 2 main theatres and a wide range of outpatient facilities from which consultant and nurse-led activity is delivered. The ophthalmic service is supported by fully equipped Orthoptic and Optometric departments.

The department is very active in research with several ongoing global and NIHR portfolio adopted clinical trials.
