This post supports the current and on-going Trust Library & Knowledge Services development strategies and the Knowledge for Healthcare strategy that aims to develop Library and Knowledge Services (LKS) in England in order to deliver theright knowledge and evidence, at the right time, in the right place, enabling high quality decision-making, learning, research and innovation to achieve excellent healthcare and health improvement.

Knowledge for Healthcare also emphasises that our services should be digital by default, and this post has a particular emphasis on e-resources and a responsibility for ensuring that the e-resources that we subscribe to function properly, their use is quantifiable, glitches are resolved and continued subscription, where appropriate, is a seamless process.

In addition to having a special responsibility for e-resources, this post has a responsibility for Trust Library Diana Princess of Wale (DPOW) site library and the service provision made to Goole Hospital staff; the post holder will also deputise for the Library & Knowledge Services Manager in supervising the staff and the smooth running of the Library at Scunthorpe General Hospital in Scunthorpe.

This post has a cross-site responsibility that will ensure the smooth running of electronic resources that form a major element of service provision with Library & Knowledge Services, including the promotion of such resources.

The post holder will also ensure the smooth running of the library at DPOW site, provision of resources to Goole Hospital staff, and the smooth functioning of the SGH site library at Scunthorpe, in the absence of the Library & Knowledge Services manager, deputizing as and when appropriate, commensurate with this role.

This is not an exhaustive list, but the main duties and responsibilities of the post will include:
To have a proactive approach to exploring and using the latest technology.

Liaises with the Trust’s I.T. Services to ensure that I.T. problems in the libraries are dealt with quickly and that software purchased by the library for its users are compatible with Trust I.T. policies.

To ensure the smooth running and appropriate upgrading of the library management system, Heritage Cirqa.

To be involved with an upcoming HEE led project on the integration of our systems into a regional library management system

To be responsible for Trust Library & Knowledge Services promotion of services via our Twitter account, within our appropriate use framework.

To monitor and produce statistical reports that demonstrate levels of use of Library & Knowledge Services subscribed e-resources.

To troubleshoot e-resource inaccessibility or other problems, liaising with publishers as and when necessary.

To oversee the promotion and marketing of electronic resources throughout the Trust to ensure staff and students are aware of the available electronic resources and to raise awareness of Trust Library Services.

To develop new ways that will enable all Trust staff working remotely and at different times to access and use electronic resources.

Plan and deliver cascade training to the LKS team and also plan and deliver training to employees from all disciplines across the Trust on a 1:1 and group basis as required.

To conduct literature search training for either groups of Trust staff or on a 1:1 basis as appropriate

To undertake mediated literature searching upon request for staff at the post holder’s home site.

To ensure the smooth day to day running of the Trust Library & Knowledge Services at DPOW site, including the adequate provision of stock and services to our core staff and placement students, including Hull York Medical School students.
