Head of Patient and Parent Involvement

The post will concentrate on supporting and developing the mechanisms for involving patients and parents in the current service provision and any future developments in the 3-inpatient wards - The Darwin Centre for Young People, The Phoenix Centre and the Croft Child and Family Centre.

This will involve ensuring that the multi-disciplinary teams are aware of current government guidelines for patient/parent involvement and producing protocols for patient/parent involvement.

The post-holder will ensure that the information received and accessed by patients and parents is updated, accessible and responds to patient/parent’s needs.

The post holder will regularly liaise and attend meetings with those involved with patient/parent involvement both nationally and internationally to ensure that the Croft, Darwin and Phoenix Centres remain at the forefront of patient/parent involvement. They will also work alongside CPFT and service provisions within Cambridgeshire (third sector, voluntary, community) to develop and improve new services, ensure multi-agency working for improved outcomes, and assist with the requirements of the New Children’s Hospital.

The post will also support relatives through relative’s support groups, focus groups and regular communication, and provide support for patients/parents to become involved in training, research and staff recruitment. The post holder will support service users to have a voice in their care and treatment and in service developments, seeking regular feedback and engagement them in a variety of innovative and creative ways.

- Provide accessible, informative resources are available for patients and parents, through updated information packs, leaflets, websites, signposting and other resource areas.
- Responsible for the patient’s and parent’s admission information packs and ensuring that they are continually updated and evaluated in league with ward staff.
- Work closely with National Youth Advocacy Service to ensure that issues raised through the NYAS advocate, in relation to ward resources and needs, are dealt with quickly and results displayed in a ‘you said, we did’ format
- Manage and develop the ward’s website/web pages.
- Ensure payments are made where appropriate to patients/parents for their involvement in the training events.
- Produce a monthly newsletter for families
- Attend conferences/workshops to disseminate and hear good practice for patient/parent involvement.
- Collect and collate monthly feedback in the form of CPFT’s patient experience questionnaire and Carer Survey
- Facilitate ‘Have your say group’ or equivalent on each of the inpatient wards, adjusting approach to meet age and developmental stage of group members.
- Coordinate/co-coordinate, under the direction of ward managers, QNIC visits (both to and from our wards), CQC visits and Service Reviews
