Sekisui Diagnostics is looking for an experienced Associate Scientist, with expert technical knowledge to join our R&D Upstream Team in Kent.

As an Associate Scientist you will contribute your expertise to independently formulating hypotheses, whilst defining and implementing an overall scientific/technical strategy to meet objectives. You will collaboratively engage with colleagues in a small team of Scientists and Technicians for rapid and efficient project progress, delivering an exceptional quality of data and scientific support to our customers.

You:
To succeed in this role you will need work under the overall project plans, which includes adhering closely to project timelines and work input goals as technical progress allows, whilst also contributing time to working on Downstream or Analytical tasks. To work at Sekisui Diagnostics, you must have a BSc level in relevant scientific discipline, along with post-graduate scientific experience. You will have strong microbiological skills and aseptic technique, in addition to a sound understanding of the biochemistry and genetics of protein expression in E. coli. You will have significant practical expertise in running laboratory equipment and this should include the running of multiple small-scale microbial fermentation experiments frequently and routinely.

Will perform some or all of the following:

- Work primarily hands-on in the laboratory and dealing with primary data
- Collaboratively engage with colleagues in a small team of Scientists and Technicians for rapid and efficient project progress, delivering an exceptional quality of data and scientific support to our customers, may include writing of time-critical reports and directly interacting with customers
- Work under the overall project plans, adhering as closely to project timelines and work input goals as technical progress allows
- As determined by the Head of R&D, and R&D Team Leaders, also contribute time to working on Downstream or Analytical tasks if project plans require this
- Contribute to the preparation of Lab Process Outlines and interact with Technical Transfer function to prepare Scale-Up Process Outlines
- Fully support and comply with R&D laboratory working practices with a particular focus in the Upstream laboratory, contribute fully to all communal lab responsibilities, setting a leading example to other staff
- Use scientific literature and colleagues as resources and may contribute to scientific publications and conferences
- Serve as in-house and outside consultant in area of technical expertise
- Perform routine maintenance of laboratory systems and equipment
- Support Environmental Management System (EMS) activities and compliance per ISO14001
- Understand and is aware of the quality consequences which may occur from the improper performance of their specific job
- Responsible for exhibiting professional behavior with both internal/external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company’s policies and practices
- Carry out duties in compliance with established business policies
