**Location**: Central Lewisham (Leemore Centre, SE13 5EU), but may be required to work anywhere within the CAL service including at outreach locations, and some home based working in a hybrid arrangement.

**About the role**

Provide quality generalist advice and casework on a range of issues in particular housing and benefits, with a focus on income maximization and financial capability.

**Context of role**

Work as part of the CAL advice team to ensure delivery to agreed targets and quality standards.

**Generalist Adviser**
- Interview clients using sensitive listening and questioning skills in order to allow clients to explain their problem(s) and empower them to set their own priorities.
- Use the Citizens Advice AdviserNet website to find, interpret and communicate the relevant information.
- Research and explore options and implications so that clients can make informed decisions.
- Act for the client where necessary by calculating, negotiating, drafting or writing letters and telephoning.
- Negotiate with third parties such as statutory and non-statutory bodies as appropriate.

**About you**

You will have:

- Proven track record as a generalist adviser including experience of providing benefits advice or a willingness to train as a generalist adviser within a short time frame.
- Ability to commit to and work within the aims, principles and policies of the Citizens Advice service.
- Ability to interview clients using sensitive listening and questioning skills to get to the root of the issues and empower clients, whilst maintaining structure and control of meetings.
- Ability to give and receive feedback objectively and sensitively and a willingness to challenge constructively.
