Reed Recruitment in Colchester on behalf of our client are looking for Pastry Chef on a full time, permanent basis.

Key duties
- Work alongside the Senior Pastry Chef to ensure our cake counter is adequately stocked every day with cakes, scones and hot/cold desserts to the high standards our customers expect, whilst controlling and minimizing waste.
- Make and prepare afternoon teas and breakfast items from scratch e.g. granola sundaes and porridge
- Assist with planning for the week/month/season ahead and order ingredients
- Bake and decorate cakes and desserts, working alongside the Bakery and Pastry Chefs and other catering assistants who help as required
- Meet customer needs for ‘free from’ items - including dairy free, gluten free and vegan
- Involved in recruitment and development, training junior staff in baking and decorating, conducting inductions and performance reviews
- Prepare all dishes to the high standards required
- Comply with instructions to ensure the security and correct rotation of stock
- Participate in daily and weekly cleaning rotas and maintain working surfaces, floors and equipment and utensils in a safe and clean condition

Your Capabilities
- Experience as a Pastry Chef, working somewhere which bakes and decorates cakes and desserts from scratch
- You can follow instructions to bake cakes and make desserts to a consistently high standard, and can work on your own initiative
- You are confident in your abilities, and happy to work in front of kitchen window in view of our customers
- You can maintain a pleasant, helpful and courteous manner at all times
- Excellent communication skills with a positive and enthusiastic approach to work

**Requirements**:
 Proven experience working in a busy kitchen or exemplary qualifications in catering, combined with relevant paid or voluntary baking or hospitality experience
 You must be able to bend, lift and carry items as required and sustain long periods of time on your feet
 Excellent communication skills
 Ability to follow instructions
 Maintain a high standard of personal and working hygiene
