We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Kirton team in the position of Sand Mixer.
The role holder will be responsible for correctly mixing and distributing facing materials for the facing machines and overseeing deliveries of sand and stains on behalf of the Kiln Senior Operative.
**Your duties would include but not limited to the following**:
All tasks carried out as part of the daily job role must be done so in a safe manner, adhering to the Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work, as well as Forterra’s Health and Safety policy.
- On collection of FLT carry out pre-start checks as per the manufacturers’ recommendations and fill out daily log, reporting any potential defects to management.
- Drive FLT using best practice in accordance with the CTA or other recognised certificate/ qualification.
- At the commencement of the shift, start up the dust extraction system.
- Empty dust extraction unit weekly to maintain the optimum efficiency of the unit.
- Maintain the working area in a clean and tidy state, in order to meet housekeeping standards.
- Follow set down recipes to prepare the required facing material mix.
- Ensure correct PPE is worn at all times and that anybody entering this area is aware of the minimum requirement and follows it.
- Either put the bin of stain to stock or take it into the appropriate area in the factory.
- For ALL mixes, take small samples into re-sealable plastic bags and carry out testing procedures in the lab, in order to maintain consistency and quality.
- Upon delivery of fresh sand and stain deliveries carryout QA checks to ensure suitability and quality.
- Keep the Kiln Senior Operative abreast of all non-conformities or potential QA issues.
- Ensure you are aware of all emergency procedures.
- Report all health and safety concerns to the Kiln Senior Operative, Shift Manager, BST Safety Rep or Management, depending on severity.
- At all times be aware of pedestrians and other traffic.
**About You**:
Despite no formal academic qualifications or education being required, the individual requires a minimum of 3 months training period, in which they will be assessed and supervised by a competent operator and examined against a competency check sheet.
