**About Us**
Sedgemoor Tree Services are a small friendly family ran arboriculture and countryside management business based on the doorstep of the Quantock Hills and Somerset levels. Established in 2005, the business offer a range of domestic and commercial habitat maintenance services and County wide highways maintenance services.

Our comprehensive highways maintenance service includes:

- Planned and reactive maintenance.
- Highway improvement schemes.
- Emergency response.
- Horticulture management.
- Designing maintenance and improvement schemes.

**About The Role**
We are looking for an experienced, competent and enthusiastic Highways Supervisor to work alongside our Commercial and Operations Manager.

The purpose of the role is to provide a first-class service to our customers, completing a high standard of signs installation and maintenance to the highway network, across Somerset.

As a Highways Supervisor your duties and responsibilities will be:
1. Continual focus on operational gross margins of all work that you are delivering, from the pre
- works planning stage, to on-site supervision. Through effective resource management you will always get the best from your team. You will be empowered to take corrective action at any stage to ensure the best possible outcome.

2. Undertake a pre-works assessment for all works received from the client or the Design Engineer, to establish labour, plant, material and specialist sub-contractor requirements for each works order. Establish a target scheme programme, monitor progress and report progress to the Commercial Manager on a daily basis.

3. Monitor all works activities to ensure the programme remains on track, of the right quality and is being delivered in a safe manner. You’ll also match resource needs to ensure the programme delivers on time and budget and provide updates to the Commercial Manager and the Client.

4. Daily update of RAMS for all resource including supply chain.

5. Line management of direct report operatives in respect of Health & Safety compliance, training requirements, Occupational Health assessments, return to work management and completion of WRAP forms when needed.

6. Deliver Tool-Box-Talks and safety briefings that arise, produce and communicate IFE briefings as instructed, to individual teams.

7. Marking up and setting out of works and costing of works on specific activities.

8. Induct and brief the gang prior to works starting to ensure time, quality and safety targets are communicated.

9. Attend Supervisor meetings to share good practice with the wider team to ensure consistency of delivery across all departments and to improve overall performance.

10. Take ownership for safety and environmental compliance including visualisation and all relevant safety work and audits.

11. Proactively, communication.

12. Mentor any Apprentice’s we recruit.

13. Flexible in all types of work including covering other supervisors works.

**Person Specification**
As our Highways Supervisor you will have in depth practical experience of all civil related activities on public realm schemes including signs installation and maintenance, drainage, kerbs, working around utilities and works within traffic management.

Using your experience & initiative you will be able to manage a small team of up to five operatives and demonstrate by your own actions, high standards of health, safety, wellbeing, environment & quality standards. You will maintain accurate daily allocation records & diaries, deliver daily task briefings & Tool-Box-Talks, manage your teams daily workload and organise plant & materials.

You will act as an ambassador for Sedgemoor Tree Services to the client, members of the public and other stakeholders.

**Skills & Experience**
- Experience within the highway maintenance industry.
- CSCS, New Roads and Street Works (NRSWA) Operative Accreditation, SSSTS and CAT &Genny qualification
- Commercially driven to be able to capture working cost efficiencies, cost control and saving money wherever possible for the mutual benefit of the client and Sedgemoor Tree Services.
- Effective team management, leadership, motivational and influencing skills to get the best from everyone.
- The ability to work under pressure and to tight timescales.
- Excellent customer skills and the ability to demonstrate influencing in all situations.
- The ability to drive excellent relationships with contacts at all levels - from the client to colleagues.
- The ability to remain flexible in your approach to the role whilst embracing change and helping to drive that change through the wider teams and through into the delivery.
- The ability to undertake a high level of manual work and work outdoors in all weathers
- Driving Licence (no endorsements), with experience in towing.
