The post holder will be located within the Infant Mental Health Pathway which is part of the Early Help Pathway of the CAMHS service in Plymouth. The Principal Child Psychotherapist is based within the Infant Mental Health who are based within a Childrens Centre. The post holder will therefore be based within the same building but will have experience of working across CAMHS with children and young people from 0-18 and their families. There are good working relationships with our partners in Health, Education and Social Care.

Applicants for the full six-years of training will be expected to remain in their current employment for the first pre-clinical year whilst attending 1 day a week pre clinical training. In the second pre-clinical year they will take up posts as Assistant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists (Band 5) within Plymouth Infant mental health team and CAMHS. Fees for personal psychoanalysis, will be provided in the second pre-clinical year. Those who have already completed the first year of pre-clinical learning will be in a position to commence the Assistant post.

To assist the Child & Adolescent Psychotherapists in providing specialist mental health service for children, adolescents and families who experience psychiatric or mental health disorder, including extreme emotional and behavioural difficulties. CAMHS work with children/young people (aged 0 to 18) and their families. The service community-based, innovative and needs-led response to children and young people across the full care pathway. This role is central to CAMHS strategy of collaborating to reduce health inequalities across the city as well as improving access to mental health services.

We also have a strong commitment to participation and can offer you a genuine experience of working with children and young people to shape services and reduce stigma. An appropriate number of completed treatment episodes commensurate with referral rate by maintaining, organising and prioritising an individual caseload of children and families within a clinically effective number: assessing, formulating, planning, implementing and evaluating care under supervision. To undertake routine and high priority assessment of children and young people mental health problems. Often working with a high level of risk due to extreme disturbance or where there are complex and emotionally difficult issues, such as deliberate self-harm, attempted suicide, child neglect and abuse.
