With over half of journeys to work in Bath currently made by car, there is a need to increase travel by less polluting, more sustainable modes of transport.

This is a brand-new role to work across our four key anchor institutions of: Bath and North-East Somerset Council, Royal United Hospital, Bath Spa University, and University of Bath to deliver effective travel planning.

All four organisations share goals in reducing carbon, and achieving a more sustainable transport network. This role will be critical in shaping the future transport policy and operations for all four partners, enabling joined up solutions to creating an effective, sustainable transport network.

As part of the West of England Combined Authority, we have been successful in winning an unprecedented devolution of transport funding to the region. As a result, over the next five years, we will see a large investment in transport schemes including public transport, walking, and cycling improvements. The transformation in our transport system is necessary to deliver our net-zero by 2030 target and to improve the health and wellbeing of our population.

You will be responsible for shaping the delivery, ongoing review and development of the anchor institutions’ travel plans, undertaking staff travel surveys and consulting with staff; negotiating with public transport providers to improve services and improve the efficiency of business travel for and on behalf of the four partners.

We would like you to establish a Sustainable Travel Business Forum to promote best practice across the organisations and wider across the B&NES area over time, as well as identifying, and securing funding to support new initiatives and manage the implementation of these through to benefits realisation

You’ll be responsible for sharking knowledge within each of the anchor institutions, influencing and shaping policy to achieve the joint aims of the institutions.

You will report direct to the Head of Transport Strategy and work across multiple teams, and organistions.

This role offers the opportunity for blended working and the post-holder will be expected to spend part of their week working from home. Office time will be shared between the four anchor institutions as appropriate.

Your main place of work will be the award-winning, modern Civic Centre in Keynsham, halfway between Bath and Bristol, easily accessible via car or public transport, with a train station 5 minutes’ walk away.
