Job description
Our client is currently recruiting for the position of Principal Geophysicist, based in Aberdeen.
**Responsibilities**:
- To provide geophysical expertise across Subsurface and Exploration including technical mentoring and coaching
- To support the Subsurface Chiefs to in providing technical reviews and assurance in line with corporate standards and VOSG processes, as directed by the appropriate discipline Chief and to occupy no more than 30% of the role
- Seismic interpreter within the Operated Assets multi-disciplinary subsurface team
- Deliver opportunities for production enhancement and resource additions through subsurface characterisation, reservoir geological modelling and opportunity generation & maturation
- Support well planning & delivery programmes
- Creates and takes accountability for organisation
- Creates sense of direction/purpose. Influential/powerful communicator. Reinforces need for technical excellence
- Mentor and lead more junior subsurface staff
- Responsible for ensuring adherence to and continuous improvement of technical Standards in geophysical workflows
- Technical QA/QC of geophysical Subsurface technical work across the E&P life cycle, jointly with other Subsurface function Principals and as directed by the Chiefs
- Responsible for all aspects of structural interpretation and mapping/modelling of subsurface opportunities using seismic and other geophysical methods
- Identify, mature and deliver opportunities for production enhancement and resource growth
- Responsible for independently defining and completing geophysical work programmes in support of business strategy and integrating results effectively with other subsurface disciplines
- Communicating results and influencing stakeholders appropriately to drive effective business decisions
- Mentoring junior staff
- Ensure Resource and Asset managers are kept up to date with Geophysical work items and proposals.
- Interfacing and leveraging technical expertise within the wider G&RE organisation, influencing subsurface team priorities and work programmes
Experience & Qualifications:
- Substantial seismic interpretation experience
- The ability to work influentially in a multi-disciplinary team
- Able to deliver complex subsurface characterisation projects including uncertainty
- Able to provide technical direction to others
- Expertise with geophysical aspects of the well planning process
- Sound working knowledge of industry software packages, particularly Petrel
- Provides technical expertise in multiple significant projects with frequent senior and functional management interface
- Ability to make sound business recommendations to Management
- Coordinates various technical areas in support of given project objectives
- Able to provide technical direction to others
- Recognised as a key technical resource across the company
- Role models openness, integrity and collaboration in all their communication, communicates complex topics clearly and engagingly
- Listens actively, guides discussion, and ensures everyone understands, takes accountability to influence team success through coaching and communicates the message 'their success is my success', shares knowledge across the organisation
