Job Purpose:
The role is for a Manager with the responsibility for technical leadership of the Suspension & Steering team, and to provide cross functional leadership in the development of the wider Chassis & Vehicle Dynamics department.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

- Lead the day-to-day management of the Chassis Suspension & Steering team, responsible for components and systems from early concept through to current production.
- Lead component and system Quality, Cost and Delivery target setting, compatibility and adherence.
- Manage the design, development and delivery of the following Chassis Systems: Suspension, Steering, Subframes, Powertrain Mounts and Wheels & Tyres.
- Create system archetypes and component development roadmaps for future vehicle cycle planning.
- Ensure technical best practice documentation, design manuals and testing procedures are appropriately created and maintained to ensure consistency and robust failure mode avoidance.
- Ensure all failure mode avoidance activities, commodity planning, design progression and DVP testing is completed to achieve Final Engineering Sign Off in line with timing constraints.
- Achieve business plan investment and piece cost targets.
- Manage the welfare and development of the Suspension & Steering

Qualification & Experience:

- Extensive industry experience in Chassis Engineering and Development within an automotive OEM or automotive components supplier.
- Proven experience of directly or indirectly leading an engineering team in a highly demanding working environment.
- Strong interest in Vehicle Dynamics.
- Good working knowledge of Performance, Durability and NVH attributes their impact on Chassis Systems
- Excellent knowledge of testing and development processes, GD&T, FUSA, DFM & tooling principles, appreciation for VFM.
- Excellent knowledge of Engineering Quality tools such as D-FMEA, 6-sigma, 8D Problem Solving.
- Good working knowledge of MISSION or an equivalent Product Creation System such as GPDS, FPDS, AMPC
- Good working knowledge of Chassis CAE tools (ADAMS, VI-Grade, MATLAB), tyre modelling, component rig testing and experience of system development utilising SIL, HIL and driver-in-loop simulations.
- High level knowledge of instrumentation and measurement processes for objective chassis performance to cascade to system and component targets
- Experience of delivering multiple vehicle dynamics development projects, especially high-performance road vehicles.
- Expertise on FEA, load cases and durability analysis
- Engineering degree in an appropriate engineering discipline.
- Chartered engineer
