**Forensic Testing Service - Sample Preparation Laboratory Assistant**

FTS is looking for an individual with a passion for delivering high quality work to join our Sample Preparation Team

This interesting and fast-paced role provides much variation in the day-to-day processing of case samples. Because we provide full, in-house training, we are excited to employ people from a range of different scientific backgrounds and offer opportunities for progression within the company.

This is a hands on role, processing client samples and gathering observations and data to pass onto the laboratory team for analytical processing.

**About FTS**

FTS provide expert drug and alcohol reports to support Family Law Court proceedings. We are the leading company in our sector, holding best practice status from parliamentary review.

Our GOAL is to ensure the safety of children across the country from drug and alcohol abuse at home.

**What will you do in this role?**
- Prepare hair, nail, blood, and urine samples collected from adults and children involved in family court proceedings
- Use specialist techniques to align scalp hair to allow accurate segmentation into different time periods
- Calculate time periods covered by body hair and nail samples
- Make decisions on which samples are most appropriate for the instructed testing
- Wash and chop samples to remove outside contaminants/products etc ahead of the analytical processing
- Collect and record sample observations on our bespoke laboratory IT system
- Store spare samples and washes
- Ensure quality control of all samples, providing feedback to other departments where necessary
- Maintain the efficiency of the Sample Preparation Laboratory by contributing to team targets
- Liaise with other departments to ensure report delivery is early or on time
- Carry out all work in line with UKAS ISO/IEC 17025, strictly following SOPs

**What you need**
- Have a determined attitude toward learning and self-development
- Utmost attention to detail
- High numeracy and literacy skill
- Great dexterity
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Experience in use of Microsoft Office
- Experience working in a professional laboratory working to ISO/IEC 17025 standards (_desired_)
- Undergraduate degree in relevant discipline (_required_)

**Schedule**:
Monday to Friday (occasional weekend availability when required)

8-hour shift starting between 7am and 9:30am

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: From £22,000.00 per year
