The Technical Services department within pharmacy opened in September 2012 and holds an MHRA ‘Specials’ manufacturing licence. The service encompasses aseptic, chemotherapy, non-sterile and pre-pack labelling and repackaging of medicines. The Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) department support the MHRA licence and also provide Quality Control support in regard to the preparation of radio pharmaceuticals for the Trust.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and self motivated senior assistant technical officer to work with our team in technical services.

The successful person will be required to set up and prepare aseptic and cancer chemotherapy medicines made within Pharmacy Technical Services. This will involve working in a controlled environment and wearing protective garments and shoes. The post holder will be expected to understand and follow standard operating procedures and have good manual dexterity.

In addition the post holder will be required to assist with the operation and maintenance of quality systems ensuring compliance with the terms of the MHRA Manufacturing “Specials” Licence in regards to all compounding and manufacturing processes.

Minimum qualifications; 4 GCSE’s at grade C or above including GCSE Maths, English and Science.

The employee will be supported to obtaina BTEC level 2 certificate in Pharmacy Services where required.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
- 4 GCSE’s at grade C (new grade 4) or above including Maths, English and Science at grade C (4) or above.
- And BTEC Level 2 in pharmacy services
- OR equivalent relevant qualification to area of speciality AND willingness to work towards BTEC L2 certificate in pharmacy services

Desirable criteria
- A Levels / Degree level education in science related field

Other

Essential criteria
- Must have ability to travel between sites
- Ability to take part in working rotas including bank holidays, weekends and extended hours service
- Ability to adhere to policies, procedures and standards
- Flexibility in working hours to suit the needs of the Pharmacy Directorate

- Ability to realise when it is necessary to liaise with Senior Staff
- Ability to prioritise own workload and work as part of a team

- Awareness of Health and safety issues including COSHH

Desirable criteria
- Preparation of licenced medications of aseptic products, including chemotherapy and monoclonals, where safe handling and accuracy is of the utmost important.

Experience

Essential criteria
- For Band 3: Experience of working in hospital or industry pharmaceutical aseptic services with associated training.
- A Band 2 position may be offered to applicants with no experience and robust objectives would be set to be achieved to progress to Band 3 level (target within 1 year)
- IT skills
- Experience of working with standard operating procedures
- Team working

Desirable criteria
- At least 1 years’ previous experience in a similar role
