We have an exciting opportunity for a Disruption Controller to join our Control Team, to minimise the impact of real time train service disruptions.

As a Disruption Controller, you’ll be responsible for the real time management of Northern’s Traincrew during times of disruption. You’ll work closely your team, but you will maintain open and clear communications with Regional Depot Managers, Traincrew Supervisors and Traincrew. You’ll be tasked with making decisions to deliver the best solutions - making sure disruptions to train services lead to mínimal impact on our customers journeys.

With the support of our Customer Service Control Team, you’ll be the focal point for our Traincrew. You’ll handle all minute-by-minute issues, using foresight and communicating effectively. You’ll work with initiative and collaboration to create alternative traincrew plans in the event of a major disruption and putting those plans into action.

This role is highly detailed and requires you to ensure the highest levels of safety are always maintained during times of disruption for Northern’s services, customers, and employees.

**Role Responsibilities**

Your main duties include but not limited to:

- Ensure the highest levels of safety are maintained at all times for Northern services, customers, and employees.
- Responsible for the real time management of Northern’s Traincrew during disruption.
- Initiate action to minimise the effect on train services.
- Liaise with Regional Depot Managers, Train Crew Controllers, Traincrew Supervisors, Traincrew and Northern’s Controllers during disruption; taking a proactive stance and utilising cross cover opportunities to ensure all train coverage options are duly explored and actions taken for the best advantage of Northern’s Customers.
- Collaborate with the Regional Depot Managers, Train Crew Controllers and Train Crew Supervisors to contribute with the creation of alternative train crew plans in the event of major disruption and the need for Control to instigate an alternative train plan.
- Supporting the Regional Depot Managers, Train Crew Controllers and Train Crew Supervisors to ensure a provision of alternative transport for Northern Traincrew when required, this ensures Northern Rail services are provided to expectation.

**About You**

As a proactive person, you’ll be decisive, creative and have the ability to use your judgement to make effect and efficient decisions. You’ll be an effectual communicator, being able to listen and instruct whilst working under pressure. You should also be able to demonstrate the following:
Essential:

- A good level of general education is required.
- The ability to work under pressure whilst making sound and logical decisions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate teams and individuals from a wide range of disciplines and companies.
- Effective man management skills with strong communication and persuasive attributes combined with patience and the ability to make timely decisions.
- A strong understanding of customers’ needs, excellence in Customer Service, and an understanding of the issues faced by front line staff.

Desirable:
Sound knowledge of the working railway, with particular emphasis on passenger train operations and incident management.

A sound knowledge of Rules, Regulations and Safety Instructions relating to the operation of passenger trains using both diesel and electrical multiple units.

A good knowledge of railway geography and infrastructure within the Arriva Rail North area of operations.

A knowledge of the Performance and Service Quality Regimes.

Good IT skills with experience of railway industry mainframe and micro systems

An excellent knowledge of train crew conditions of service and the rostering process.

Financial, commercial, and contractual awareness.

An understanding of the Disabled Persons Protection Policy and an awareness of the needs of Disabled people.
