The laparoscopic robotic service based at Sunderland Royal Hospital is well-established and highly respected. The Colorectal unit provides Colorectal cancer resection, benign colorectal resections, IBD services, full Pelvic floor service, perianal and complex trans anal surgery, laparoscopic hernia surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction.

The Trust has been successful in accessing a second robot to support recovery with the aim of increasing robotic capacity into the future.

A weekly multi-disciplinary team meeting discusses all new referrals, plans individual patient care and identifies potential patient complications and management.

The successful Fellow will integrate into the friendly, forward thinking team and receive hands-on training in Robotic /laparoscopic colorectal surgery. They will be expected to participate in clinics, ward work and audit/teaching activities during their attachment.

Fellows will be expected to be part of teaching in NSTC cadaveric lab in Newcastle. Paper presentations and publications are actively encouraged during attachment.
