Supporting properties and work programmes in Essex, Suffolk and Bedfordshire you’ll help our teams to care for and understand special places using contemporary research, inclusive engagement, innovative interpretation, creative presentation, and world-classcuratorial skills.
We’re looking for a knowledgeable and creative individual ideally with curatorial experience of outdoor sites and vernacular buildings.
What it's like to work here You’ll join a team of regional Curators, who work closely with property teams to provide them with advice and support. You’ll also work with a wider network of national specialist curators and be supported by a curatorial development programme offering formaland informal training opportunities.
We operate a hybrid working model across the region however the role will be supporting properties across Essex, Suffolk and Bedfordshire, and the contracted place of work will be at our Consultancy Hub location in Bury St Edmunds.

What you'll be doing You’ll be supporting the delivery of the National Trust’s ambitions for curation and experiences across a diverse range of special places, including historic mansions and significant collections, parks, gardens, countryside and uniquely, an Anglo-Saxon BurialSite at Sutton Hoo.
You’ll inspire teams with your knowledge and deep understanding of cultural heritage. You’ll shift perspectives and open new horizons, building capacity to care for, understand, research and engage people with our places and collections. You’ll develop excellentinterpretation, support the best quality of access, and facilitate more diverse and inclusive experiences for existing and new audiences.
Your role will be varied and may include supporting the delivery of national programmes and change management, including the re-purposing of spaces.As part of the internal consultancy, you’ll develop trusted relationships with operational colleagues, partners,and stakeholders.
Who we're looking for We’ll shortlist against the following criteria; please outline clearly in your covering letter how you meet these criteria:
- Significant knowledge across two or more of the following areas: history, art and design history, architectural history, landscape history, museum studies, cultural heritage & social history
- Knowledge of current best practice and innovations in relation to the care and management of buildings, landscapes, and collections
- Substantial experience of developing engaging and accessible interpretation and visitor engagement
- A commitment to inclusive and diverse histories, programming and engagement.
- Experience of commissioning, undertaking, and disseminating research, including publications
- Strong consulting skills; listening, building trust, offering advice. Able to influence, challenge constructively and negotiate
- Ability to build effective collaborative working relationships within a matrix management structure and multi-site environment, harnessing the expertise and abilities of mixed teams
