I am working with a Public Sector Organisation based in Elmbridge Council who are looking for experienced Housing Benefit Assessor for 6 Months initially.

The role is full time, to start ASAP and paying £25 Umbrella per Hour. The role is in scope of IR35.

Job Purpose
- To work as a member of a team providing a high standard of service to the public. Use expert knowledge to ensure that customer demands are met.
- To accurately and efficiently assess entitlement to Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support, and all related activities associated with the assessment of a claim, ensuring that the right benefit is paid at the right time to the right person.
- A flexible and adaptable approach to work is required as well as an ability to deal with several issues simultaneously. An understanding of the claimants needs should also be shown, in order to tailor the service to the individual customer needs.

Key Duties / Responsibilities
- Maintain an expert, up to date knowledge of both Housing Benefit and Council Tax legislation and internal procedures and processes, and keep fully appraised of relevant changes.
- To keep up to date with changes in relation to Welfare Reform and Universal Credit in relation to the administration of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support.
- To work without direct supervision when working from alternative locations across Stoke-on-Trent, such as Local Centres, to provide the benefits service.
- Assist and advise vulnerable customers or their agents with the completion of Housing and Council Tax Benefit claims and identify potential entitlement to other benefits and give advice on these.

Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to conduct complex and sensitive interviews with customers with appreciation of the need for tact, confidence and firmness when dealing with the public, whilst maintaining confidentiality.
- Ability to independently exercise own judgement in a fair and consistent manner within confines of legislation and agreed procedures, maximising opportunities for customers on an equal and lawful basis.
- IT skills, particularly in relation to spread sheets and word processing. Must have the ability to input information in a quick and accurate manner
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with other members of staff, the public, third sector agencies and external partners.
