You must have the right to work in the UK to undertake this locum position.

We’re currently recruiting for a new locum opportunity based in the **Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.** You will be working as a Consultant **Locum Consultant Anaesthetist**, for an NHS Trust. For this role the individual must have relevant previous experience working in this type of position.

Over 6 months experience in the NHS

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

On the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register

**Person Specification**

**Registration & Training**

**Essential**
- Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
- Training & experience equivalent to that required for UK CCT

**Desirable**
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register in Anaesthetics or eligibility to enter it within 6 months from the time of the interview

**Qualifications**

**Essential**
- MB ChB or equivalent
- FRCA or equivalent

**Desirable**
- Evidence of other postgraduate qualification, MSc, MD, PhD,MA, Masters in Education

**Clinical Experience**

**Essential**
- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Anaesthesia
- An appropriate period of training and experience in Anaesthesia for major surgical procedures
- An appropriate period of training and experience in Paediatric Anaesthesia
- Experience of Perioperative Medicine
- Advanced airway management skills

**Desirable**
- Record of regular attendance at national specialty meetings
- Evidence of subspecialty training or fellowship
- Relevant medical experience outside Anaesthesia

**Clinical Governance**

**Desirable**
- Evidence of implementing relevant evidence-based medicine
- Participation in relevant national audits

**Research**

**Desirable**
- Recent published clinical research in peer reviewed journal

**Teaching**

**Essential**
- Completed a Teaching the Teachers or similar course

**Desirable**
- Experience as an examiner at undergraduate level

**Clinical Experience**

**Essential**
- Comprehensive knowledge of Anaesthesia and the ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective within Anaesthetics, including Obstetrics and Paediatrics
- Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision

**Clinical Governance**

**Essential**
- Able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the principles and elements of clinical governance
- Knowledge of the principles of evidence-based practice
- Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and direct experience of audit

**Desirable**
- Implementation of evidence-based guidelines

**Research**

**Essential**

**Desirable**
- Ability to supervise postgraduate research

**Teaching**

**Essential**
- Knowledge and ability to supervise and teach all grades of trainees, medical students and nursing staff
- Understands learner centred teaching

**Desirable**
- Interest in teaching medical, nursing and other groups of staff

**Safeguarding**

**Essential**
- Knowledge and Experience of Safeguarding for Children and Adults

**Standards**

**Essential**
- Has a thorough knowledge and understanding of "Good Medical Practice" set out by the GMC
