As a school we are committed to providing the very best education for pupils from Year 7 to Year 11. Based in our excellent temporary site, formerly a school building which has been reconfigured in Newcastle’s Graingertown, we have access to a range of brilliant facilities. We will move to our brand-new site which will have capacity for 1200 students in 2025; this is located to the northwest of the city - close to Westerhope, Kingston Park and Newcastle International Airport. We are one of two new schools within Gosforth Group Multi Academy Trust and will be welcoming our fourth cohort of students when the position starts meaning that we will have Years 7, 8, 9 and 10.

About the role

We are seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join our staff team at Callerton Academy. Alongside working within a multi-professional team to manage support on the school timetable, to assist teachers in facilitating teaching and learning activities, you will be a ‘hands on’ colleague who is willing to support other departments of the academy in its infancy.

What we are looking for
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent numeracy/literacy skills
- Ideally someone with previous experience of working with young people
- Ideally someone who can demonstrate a good understanding of SEND or is willing to develop this quickly
- A sympathetic understanding of broad needs of secondary aged students
- Attention to detail
- An effective team player
- A colleague who is excited about the prospect of being part of a growing support team, setting up systems and problem solving to ensure the best possible environment and outcomes for all students.
- Additionally, part of the role includes accompanying our students on the school transport service, starting at the Simonside Primary School site, a couple of times a week. Working hours therefore will be 8am to 4pm.
