Paediatric Staff Nurse Rotation Post

Full/Part time

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our established team in the Children Services at the Queen Elizabeth hospital.

As we are passionate about the care we deliver to children and young people and their families, we are seeking enthusiastic, committed and highly motivated individuals dedicated to making a difference within the paediatric services.

This post is a rotation between three key areas of children’s services: Paediatric Emergency Department, Hippo Assessment Unit and Safari ward (inpatient ward encompassing HDU)

The Children’s Emergency Department is open 24 hrs a day and sees on average 80 - 100 children a day. Here you will be involved in the care and stabilisation of patients presenting with minor injuries/illness through to acute life threatening conditions.

Hippos Assessment Unit is open 16hrs a day seeing on average 30 children a day comprising GP/Midwife referrals, reviews, speciality referrals, patients known to paediatric services and those who fit current patient pathways in collaboration with our busy Paediatric Accident and Emergency department.

Safari ward is a 20 bedded Inpatient ward with a 4 bedded Level 2 HDU caring for children and families that require admission.

You will be given a rare and diverse learning experience gaining a variety of skills specialised to each area. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating nursing care with opportunities to increase your skills, knowledge and experiences. We aim for our new team members to develop and take an active role in helping to make improvements on the unit and most importantly, to care given to patients.

This person must like a challenge, respond well to the demands of busy departments and enjoy working at a fast pace within a multidisciplinary team.

As an organisation, we’ve made significant improvements for patients and staff in the last two and-a-half years. This is reflected in our most recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection (from February 2020), which found improvements across the organisation and gave us an improved rating of “Good” in the Well-Led and Effective domains, in addition to the rating of “Good” that we had already achieved in the Caring domain. Our staff culture change programme has been key to the Trust’s improvement journey, as we’ve stabilised our workforce by reducing vacancy rates and improving staff retention. We’ve also significantly increased the representation of minority ethnic leaders across our clinical and corporate teams.

To work as a multi-skilled member of the nursing team within the Children and Young People Services; maintaining high standards of practice and promoting the philosophy of child and family centred care. This job description covers all areas within Children and Young People.

In line with our Trust values we are a non-discriminatory and inclusive employer who takes great pride in the care we provide for our staff, as well as our patients.

This is an 18 month rotational post where applicants will get 6 months experience in each of the designated areas before moving onto anther area. At the end of the 18 months there will be post available for them to continue working in either Hippo, Safari or Paediatric ED
