We are looking for a Lead for the resuscitation and Simulation services. To fulfill this role you need to be talented, dynamic, ambitious and forward thinking. You will have a real interest and passion for resuscitation education and the use of human patient simulation teaching to support the development of excellent clinical skills ensuring the best standards of safe and effective care for our patients.

This role provides a vital link between education and clinical services and is key to the Trusts Patient Safety Agenda. The key responsibilities are to provide strategic leadership to support the Trust’s high priority work streams to reduce serious incidents relating to acutely unwell patients who are at risk of deterioration, immediate life threatening events or risk of suffering a cardiac arrest.

This will involve leading the Resuscitation and Simulation teams to achieve a forward thinking, innovative service and ensure the delivery of high quality simulation and resuscitation education which supports clinical service and working collaboratively with the Outreach team, audit and clinical governance.

The Resuscitation and Simulation team sits within the Clinical Skills Education team and is based within Education Centre 2 at Royal Preston Hospital. This is a dedicated building to the training of Clinical Skills for both trust and external staff. There are 4 dedicated resuscitation training rooms and 2 purpose built and well equipped simulation/immersive simulation suites with debrief and control rooms and the latest models of manikins to support high quality teaching.

We have a hard working and dedicated team with experienced simulation and resuscitation officers and are supported by Medical Simulation Leads and a Director for resuscitation who support the team in driving the service forward to a high standard. The team provide a positive, responsive and flexible response, this can involve working evenings, weekends and long days to ensure service needs are supported.

- Develops and implements a resuscitation and simulation education strategy which supports the Trust to deliver high quality care and meet its contractual obligations in relation to set Educational outcomes, Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines and statutory and mandatory requirements for assurance.
- Works collaboratively with the Medical Simulation leads to provide quality education provision which supports the Trust’s Strategy to reduce serious incidents relating to acutely unwell patients who are at risk of deterioration, immediate life threatening events or risk of suffering a cardiac arrest.
- Leads/ contributes to Quality improvement initiatives to improve patient care outcomes particularly in relations to DNACPR, deterioration and cardiac arrests.
- Demonstrates contribution to delivery of key targets, providing evidence necessary to demonstrate compliance with relevant local and national agreed standards/compliance requirements i.e. Acute Care competence, CQC standards, Trust appraisal standards etc.
- Leads, drives and implements changes to ensure resuscitation, clinical simulation and human factors education is delivered to a high quality standard ,which contributes to service delivery, adds value to the organisation and improves the safety & quality of care with compassion.
- Reviews the Trust’s resuscitation policies in conjunction with the Resus committee and Resus Council guidelines and ensures they are updated regularly.
- Determines the requirements for the Trust in relation to emergency equipment required and advise directors and clinical managers accordingly with regards to the procurement of equipment and standards to maintain its safe functionality
- In conjunction with the Risk Dept, ensures that all resuscitation incidents are properly investigated and reviewed.
- Attends and supports clinical peri/cardiac arrest calls.
- Demonstrates a flexible approach to working patterns as needed at certain times to meet service requirements.
- Supports the design, delivery and quality assurance of resuscitation, simulation and human factors educational sessions to support the development of clinical competence across a range of healthcare professionals, in line with agreed Directorate, Trust TNA and HEI outcomes, including Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines.
- Ensures relevant serious incident reviews, CQC, NHSLA requirements and government initiatives are used in clinical scenarios to benefit from lessons learnt.
- Supports evidence-based practice by developing and revising training in the light of new research, audit and clinical developments within the Trust.
- Works in collaboration with the Team leads to create rigorous, relevant, realistic and educationally sound clinical simulation scenarios.
