**JOB SUMMARY**

To be an integral part of the Ground Maintenance Team whose main purpose is to perform the key duties of racetrack preparation, maintenance, and improvement of the racing surface and all the associated task this role requires. There is also further estate management and building maintenance required.

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- To assist the Head Groundsperson in the performance of his role, specifically with the following duties and responsibilities.
- To maintain the racecourse and grounds to a high standard of presentation at all times.
- To assist the Head Ground person and Clerk of the Course in ensuring the track, racecourse grounds and external spaces are in pristine condition day to day and particularly on racedays.
- Turf Management including but not limited to: grass cutting, slitting, scarifying, spraying, rolling, fertilizing, filling, vert-draining, tractor driving, general maintenance.
- To perform with non-race days activities as required including cleaning, painting, salt spreading and weeding.
- Grass cutting and strimming as instructed during the growing season for the entire estate.
- Assisting with the moving and siting of running rails.
- Ensure all areas are tidy prior to a raceday/event and all horse welfare facilities are prepared and ready.
- Assisting with the maintenance of gardens and floral displays, including watering.
- Aiding in the preparation and procurement of materials for grounds maintenance and horticultural supplies
- Building maintenance, grounds upkeep, room set up, weighing room set up on raceday.
- To report all maintenance defects and ensure remedial works are completed promptly, whether performed by racing team or third party.
- To provide solutions to problems encountered on the track and found with the racing surface.
- To ensure the responsible, safe and competent use of machinery and equipment.
- To ensure all machinery used at the racecourse is cleaned and maintained in accordance with the established routine, or as required.
- To comply at all times with Health and Safety regulations and safe working practices in accordance with current legislation and as detailed in the Company’s health and safety policy and procedures. This includes the coordination and updating of racing operational risk assessments.
- Any other duties that may reasonably be required by the Management of Chelmsford City Racecourse.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS**
- IOG or NVQ Qualifications in Turf Management and /or Pitchcare or equivalent
- Have experience or qualifications in the use of grounds machinery.

- Ability to work under pressure e.g. in the event of racing incidents, or where time-critical processes apply.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Able to multi task, use initiative and work with mínimal supervision.
- Excellent time keeping and prioritisation
- Highly efficient and thorough.
- Have a proactive, approachable and customer-focussed approach

**ESSENTIALS**
- Full UK driving license;
- Flexibility to work outside normal office hours as required, including some weekends and public holidays;
