**About the role**

Our legal team is growing and we are looking for a Legal Counsel to join the team. As Legal Counsel you will join a collaborative, supportive legal team with great ideas and big ambitions for the future of HL. We provide legal advice, support and challengeacross the HL Group. We manage legal risks and use commercial, legal and business partnering skills to support HL in achieving its strategic objectives, while ensuring HL meets its legal and regulatory obligations. You will be a member of the Commercial andTechnology Legal Team, part of the wider HL Legal Team.

The Legal Counsel role is varied and involves engaging on a wide range of projects with different areas of the business. As a qualified solicitor, you will be experienced in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and will have experience of advisingon a range of legal matters including data protection, intellectual property and general contract law. The ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with stakeholders in the business is essential. Ideally you would also have some experience orinterest in advising on technology or data protection/cyber security matters.

**What you'll be doing**
- Reviewing, drafting, negotiating and advising on a broad range of contracts and other legal documents. Examples of agreements include: T&Cs, software licences, platform agreements, data protection and confidentiality agreements, and more complex and bespokecommercial arrangements (under appropriate supervision).
- Advising on legal queries from the business on a wide range of matters, proposing pragmatic and commercial solutions.
- Minimising risk and ensuring that business is sufficiently protected from a legal perspective.
- Collaborating with the legal team and other areas of the business.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining appropriate policies and procedures to ensure the Group's compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Support senior members of the legal team on training plans, delivering training, research activities, helping to maintain the legal intranet site and cross-functional project initiatives to meet HL's strategy.
- Support the development of cost effective and efficient legal processes, including working effectively with external specialist legal counsel (as required).
- Assisting with the legal function as well as other ad-hoc projects and duties required by the Head of Legal and General Counsel.

**About you**
- Qualified solicitor (3+PQE).
- Strong technical knowledge of commercial law, including experience in areas such as intellectual property, software licensing and data protection.
- Strong drafting skills and experience of contract negotiation.
- Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills, along with the confidence and ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels in the organisation.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to adapt to changing business requirements.
- Excellent time-management skills and ability to manage and prioritise own workload and work to deadlines.
- Strong legal research skills.

**Interview process**

This will be a two-stage interview process where you will have the opportunity to meet team members as well as senior stakeholders. The interviews may consist of competency and behavioural based questions and a task or presentation.

**Working Schedule**

We are looking for a Legal Counsel to join our team, based in Bristol head office, BS1 5HL. This role is permanent, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We offer a hybrid flexible working pattern to enable you the option of working from homeand coming into the office.
