Gaelic Storymaker

Edinburgh, United Kingdom National Library of Scotland Full time

The Gàidhlig Storymaker 12-month role is funded by Bòrd na Gàidhlig and the National Library of Scotland and is open to creative practitioners based anywhere in Scotland who are fluent in Gaelic. The opportunity has been inspired by the current dual language exhibition at the National Library of Scotland, ‘Sgeul | Story: Folktales from the Scottish Highlands’. It aims to promote Gaelic through creative storytelling practice in order to:

- celebrate the richness of Gaelic language in Scotland
- engage a range of audiences with Gaelic language and culture through stories told in visual, spoken, or digital formats
- raise awareness of the Library’s rich Gaelic language collections which includes manuscripts, printed books, maps, film and music.

The main focus for the Storymaker will therefore be to develop and deliver a range of public events and workshops in local community settings as well as at the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and through relevant digital platforms. There will also be time for the postholder to develop their own creative practice in Gaelic.
