- Bridgemary School is seeking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated Clerk to the Local Governing Body (LGB) to provide procedural, legislative and constitutional advice and guidance all governance related matters.The school is a growing secondary located in Gosport and serves a higher than average percentage of disadvantaged students. The Governing body is also growing and so in addition to supporting it with its routine meetings and functions, recruiting and onboarding new governors will be a key part of the role in the first 12 months. You will work closely with the school’s senior leaders, the Chair and Vice Chair and also provide a key link to the governance team at TKAT, the Multi-Academy Trust to which the school belongs.The successful applicant will be employed by the school on the basis of 2 hours per week over 52 weeks, although it should be understood that the nature of the role means the hours will not fall evenly and can be outside normal working/school hours. LGB Meetings, of which there are six per academic year (one per half term), currently run on a Wednesday from 1730 to 1930. Any hours over and above the contracted number will need to be agreed in advance with either the Headteacher or the Chair of Governors. Support for one off events, such as disciplinary panels, will be paid in addition to the contracted hours based on hours worked. The majority of the work can take place remotely, with the exception of any meetings which will take place at the school. IT Equipment can be provided to support remote working. As the Clerk to the Local Governing Body you will be expected to attend planned LGB meetings, any committees, plus additional meetings e.g. exclusions and/or appeals, as necessaryWorking with TKAT to ensure that the LGB meets the requirements of the Trust and the DfE.
- Preparation, typing and distribution of agendas and associated paperwork
- Accurate note taking and typing up of minutes at Governor meetings as well as any working parties, committees or panels
- Maintaining accurate records of the LGB and its membership
- Advising the LGB on procedural issues, legal responsibilities and constitutional matters
- Managing communication, documentation and correspondence relating to the work of the LGB.

For this role, you will have:
- GCSE grade C or above Maths and English (or equivalent)
- Relevant administrative skills Knowledge of how schools and governing bodies operate would be an advantage along with previous experience of similar work.

In house training and mentoring can be provided to the right applicant.
