Are you looking to take the next steps in furthering your career, working with young people with additional needs?

Could you lead a small, caring and enthusiastic team, delivering clubs and activities to young people with SEND in North Somerset?

We are looking to recruit two Playworkers to support service delivery. For this flexible role, you will be supporting the SENDCAS Team Leaders to plan and deliver sessions at our Wednesday evening and Saturday morning clubs and activities throughout the school holidays.

**About the role**

The vacancy is to support children and young people with additional needs, aged 5 to 18 at our specialist activity days during school holidays across North Somerset and to support the running of the Saturday club and Wednesday evening youth club, which are held at The Firs Resource Centre, Weston-Super-Mare.

You will assist in delivering activities to children and young people with a wide range of needs, this will include supporting young people who can display challenging behaviour, providing personal care, administrating medication and manual handling. You will work closely with the SENDCAS Team Leaders and will be required to comply with standards set by Ofsted. Good communication skills, flexibility and being a team player are essential for this post. Please read the job description for further details on the role.

**Inductions will be held on a Saturday morning or during school holidays. You will be asked to commit to at least 8 school holiday sessions per year and 1 Saturday per term.**

You will receive job related training and we have strong links with colleagues across a range of teams including social care, children’s centres, health and education and committed to providing Continued Professional Development (CPD).

**About you**

What is most important is that you come with a can-do attitude and enthusiasm to support young people with additional needs to access social opportunities.

Other skills and experience we require include:

- Experience in paid or voluntary work with young people with additional needs.
- Have or be working towards NVQ Level 2 and possess GCSE English and Maths at Grade A -C or Level 2 equivalent.
- Have good communication skills. Be polite and courteous.
- Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding protocols for children and young people with additional needs.
- Understand and respect personal boundaries and responsibilities.
- Ability to recognise and manage challenging situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Ability to work flexibly and creatively using own initiative
- Be a role model for the team and promote professionalism in all aspects of the work.
- Be able to perform specific tasks, after being shown how to do them.
