Head of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, Medical Research Centre, Permanent, London, £41k - £46k p/a.
Our client is a world-leading medical research centre is looking for an experienced Head of EDI to join their team. This role will be key in delivering the design, implementation and embedding of approaches and initiatives to create a diverse, healthy andwell-equipped workforce.
This is a permanent role and is to start ASAP. They currently operate a hybrid work model with a minimum of 8 days a month in the office.
**The main duties of the EDI Project Officer role are**:
- Conceptualise, develop, lead and implement the strategic approach to equity, diversity and inclusion
- Ensure the proactive and creative embedding of EDI principles in decision-making processes & strategy planning
- Provide expert leadership on matters relating to EDI
- Work with senior stakeholders to drive cultural change to embed equity, diversity and inclusion
- Ensure that EDI policy, management and governance frameworks are forward thinking, fit for purpose and effectively support the organisation
- Oversee coordination and engagement in equalities frameworks
- Develop a coordinated approach and action plan around equality, diversity and inclusion
- Develop initiatives and interventions to change culture across the School, to promote equality, diversity and inclusion, and to ensure equality of participation and outcome for current and prospective students and staff
- Oversee collation and analysis of equality data / reports for relevant publications and committees to inform and progress towards the EDI strategic goals
- Manage and lead the EDI team
- Engage with all internal networks to keep abreast of good practice and developments across the sector
- Work closely and liaise effectively with Senior Team on to equality, diversity and inclusion
- Ensure the provision of administrative and coordination support to staff networks and groups
- Identify the need for and develop additional staff networks and groups as required
- Manage communications & change management for the implementation of EDI strategy and race equality plans
- Actively engage with senior stakeholders - Council, SLT, management and networks - to influence, engage, mobilise and catalyse change based on a common purpose and shared values
- Lead comms plans for key events and activities eg Black History Month and LGBT events
- Advise, guide and challenge colleagues and students including Deans and Directors of Services on equality, diversity and inclusion challenges and best practice
- Ensure departments are inclusive in their communications to staff and students
Skills and experience
- Demonstrable experience in a similar role at ad educational establishment
- Conceptualising, developing and implementing equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives
- Extensive EDI knowledge and evidence of achievements within a complex organisation
- Implementing equalities frameworks, e.g. Athena SWAN, Stonewall
- Developed leadership ability, particularly gained in an organisation experiencing change
- Achievements in delivery of equality objectives and culture change
- Significant track record in external verification and assessment of EDI
- Excellent relationship building abilities across a range of stakeholders, including senior management,
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience of managing a team including budget management
- Experience of academic work relating to EDI including critical race, feminist, disability and queer theories
- Ability to build, develop and maintain supportive and constructive working relationships
- Highly organised, logical along with ability to handle many competing priorities
- Acts with honesty, integrity, and discretion
