Loughborough, United Kingdom DNV Full time

Local Unit & Position Description:
Here at DNV, what we do matters. Whether it’s helping the Energy Industry transition to a more decarbonised and sustainable future or helping safeguard life, property and the environment, every day, what you do will make a difference. This is our shared purpose and one our people are proud to be part of.

Our highly respected Risk Advisory department in the UK and Ireland is primarily responsible for delivery of consultancy and risk management services. Our team provides high quality services and best practice in risk identification, assessment and mitigation and assist our customers in risk-based decision support. This approach is highly valued in Oil & Gas (upstream, midstream, downstream), the evolving hydrogen sector and in allied areas of Energy transition (Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), renewables).

**Our Opportunity**:
As a Graduate Technical Safety Consultant, you’ll join a growing team of big thinkers who love finding innovative solutions to our industry’s most challenging problems. You’ll be given real responsibility from day one, collaborating with forward-thinking customers and technical experts across our business, helping deliver career and industry-defining projects. You will be given the time to build your network, the resources to support your development, and the freedom to satisfy your curiosity and desire to learn.

Whichever of our key hubs you join (Loughborough or London), your development opportunities are the same. including;
- Learning how major hazards, their likelihood and consequences are managed; understanding the importance of reliability of safeguards; and how to make balanced risk-based arguments for safe operations.
- The opportunity to actively engage with clients to understand their challenges as they seek to make the Energy industry safer and more sustainable, with a special focus on energy transition challenges.
- Absorb information from experts in daily interactions to understand the industry, the terminology and how different maths, physics and engineering disciplines contribute to safety.

Additionally, in Loughborough, for those of you with a specific interest in mathematical and physical modelling, there will even be space to develop the models, tools and software that we use in the industry, keeping us at the cutting edge of the energy transition. This will be supported by industry experts, with training in programming and experimental analysis.

You’ll be stretched but always supported, so don’t worry if the Energy industry or terminology above is unfamiliar to you, we will teach you all you need to know. Upon joining, you’ll receive a buddy to help you settle in, a mentor to enhance your technical knowledge, as well as ongoing on-the-job coaching and support from your colleagues.

Our structured Graduate Programme therefore provides a fantastic start to your career, enhancing both your technical and professional skills and supporting your journey towards chartership and becoming an expert in your chosen field.

Position Qualifications:
**What will you bring?**

As a Graduate, other than your relevant degree, we don’t expect any prior experience of technical safety, engineering or the Energy industry when you join us; However, we do want you to share our passion for these and demonstrate your desire to develop yourself within this exciting area.

We try to keep our list of essential requirements to a minimum, but there are a few things needed to qualify for our programme:

- Minimum 2:2 Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering (typically Chemical, Mechanical or Process Safety), or alternatively Risk & Reliability
- Available to join the programme by September 2023
- Passion for developing your skills both professionally and personally including the commitment to complete the appropriate professional registration in your field (Chartership)
- Excellent numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills (experience in Excel or mathematical modelling/programming background will be beneficial, although not essential) demonstrating the ability to produce technical reports detailing clear outcomes of the analysis for customers
- Pro-active willingness to learn new skills displaying a willingness to “get stuck in” and undertake work outside ‘comfort zone’ demonstrating appropriate balance between asking for help and using own initiative / think through the problem
- Excellent interpersonal and team working skills, confident in building professional relationships and demonstrates first class written, verbal communication and presentation skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to plan and prioritise own time and activities, to meet deadlines and achieve project objectives

If you possess the curiosity and initiative to become an expert in your chosen field and potentially one of our future leaders, then our graduate roles could be for you.
