**Buyer / Assistant QS**

**The Role**

Buying:

- Procurement of all plant hire and building materials relating to the construction of our houses.
- Negotiating competitive prices with all suppliers, aiming to improve the budget.
- Continually reviewing rates with suppliers to ensure they remain competitive.
- Proactively researching and sourcing new products and presenting them to the directors for consideration (in line with the core values and objectives of the business).
- Close liaison with the technical team to ensure the materials we are purchasing meet the required building regulations and that they are appropriate for the designs.
- Process invoices when materials are received on site.
- Carry out take offs for budgets at the start of a project.
- Provide budgets and prices during the project for customer variations.
- Ensure material costs are reviewed each month against budgets and report estimated final costs.
- Introduce and negotiate rebate agreements with suppliers to ensure we maximise such agreements.
- Take responsibility for site procurement schedules and programmes to ensure the timely delivery of plant, materials and fittings to sites.
- Carry out periodic checks on sites in relation to material quality and supplier performance and take the necessary steps to avoid repetitive problems occurring.
- Attending and contributing to project site meetings.
- Managing and procuring head office and site office, stationery.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor:

- Assisting the quantity surveyor, when required, by: o Compiling and sending detailed and accurate contract documents. You would also be required to chase up responses and reply to tender queries. o Reviewing trade scope of works to ensure they are accurate and site-specific. o Reviewing and contributing towards monthly reports on current and expected costs. o Undertaking take offs for budgets at the start of a project.
- Quantifying likely costs of variations and ensuring these are recorded in the appropriate manner to ensure we are always reporting against the latest estimated final costs. o Receiving and processing monthly valuations.

**Core Requirements**
- qualification-levels) in a construction-related qualification.
- Display excellent and confident communication and negotiation skills.
- Have a minimum of two years’ experience purchasing materials for a house builder (preferably for a high end / low volume house builder to demonstrate understanding of the types of materials required).
- Full and clean driving license.
- Entitlement to work in the UK.
