Operating high-pressure hoses to blast away layers of paint from surfaces such as steel. GRP, structures (ships, bridges etc.).
- Inspection and use of Blast equipment, including compressors, blast pots, filters, hoses, nozzles, and pressure gauges
- Inspecting work sites to ensure the safety of workers and property
- Inspecting blasting operations to ensure that they are performed in accordance with safety regulations, Permit-to-Work, risk assessment systems etc.
- Pre-inspection of equipment prior to starting work and continued monitoring and cleaning of tools and equipment to prevent clogging or other problems that could result in injury or damage to equipment.
- Cleaning work areas before and after blasting projects to remove blast media if required.
- Preparing blasting equipment for use by checking for fluid levels and reporting any worn parts to your supervisor.
- Coatings removal as instructed from Steelwork, Ships, Bridges etc. and including within confined space environments.
- Communication: Media Blasters shall work in teams, so communication skills are required in order to efficiently interface with others including e.g. confined space working; Potman, sentries etc. while interfacing with team members to understand their needs in terms of the scope of work and process
