Taunton, United Kingdom Somerset County Council Full time

**Why should I choose Somerset County Council?**
Good question.

Well, for a start, we’re a hugely ambitious council, committed to improving lives for the residents, communities and businesses of Somerset.

And that’s why we’re working so hard to build a sustainable organisation with a culture that rewards, values and recognises our staff, and gives everyone here the opportunity to grow and develop, personally and professionally.

If you’re looking for a place where you work truly matters - where YOU truly matter - we might be just right for you.

We also promote a healthy work-life balance and offer flexible working arrangements wherever possible, including working from home.

We have an opportunity for a 22.5 hour, part time, **Senior Social Work Assistant **within our** Fostering Team **in** Taunton.**

**What will I be doing?**
We’re working to improve the lives of children in Somerset, to improve the outcomes for our most vulnerable children and young people by helping recruit local foster carers who can meet their needs and you’ll be a key part of that.

As a Senior Social Work Assistant, you will be one of the first points of contact regarding fostering enquiries within our service.

You will:

- promote and recruit potential foster carers across Somerset.
- be required to support various contacts and build relationships across services, including with customers, parents, and families.
- assist in the drive and processing of customer enquiries, to meet key objectives, and support with service performance and monitoring by becoming an excellent advocate for the service
- assist with tracking enquiries; undertake initial home visits; and help with processing customer data, to enable clear analysis and service planning.
- assist with initial foster carer training, setting up events, and promoting fostering within the community, and be part of a team to help improve a foster carers experience.

**What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?**
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be.

You will ideally have some knowledge and experience of children’s services, however what is more important is drive and passion to make a difference to children and young people. A sound knowledge or experience of fostering and fostering regulations is also desirable, along with a good understanding of social work methods and working with children and young people.

You will be passionate about working in a team who drive to achieve the best possible service. You will be confident, sensitive, understanding, and passionate when meeting with the public, and able to adapt to changing situations easily.

You will be interested in relationship-based work, caring but determined and able to reflect and think creatively about how you can build relationships to make a difference to children and families.

**A bit more about you**
- You’ll have experience of working with children, young people or/and the public and be an excellent communicator, and be able to demonstrate empathy and respect for individuals
- You’ll ensure effective safeguarding and well-being of Children & Young people are of paramount importance.
- You’ll hold an NVQ/Diploma Level 3 in Health and Social care (or equivalent) or be able to demonstrate you have comparable experience in a relevant role or setting.
- You’ll enjoy working with a variety of people and understand the importance of communicating effectively with others to promote openness, transparency and being sensitive to individual needs.

We’re proud to be here for the people of Somerset. And that means everyone in Somerset. An important part of this is ensuring that we are as diverse and inclusive as the people and communities we serve.

**What will I be offered in return?**
We are proud to offer an environment that is supportive and rewarding, working as part of a team who are passionate about the work they do to improve the lives of people in Somerset.

We offer great training and development opportunities, with supportive management. As well as this, we have some fantastic employee benefits available:

- We promote a healthy work-life balance and offer flexible working arrangements wherever possible, including working from home.
- Generous annual leave allowance, with the opportunity to purchase additional leave
