Health Improvement Practitioner

Matlock, United Kingdom Derbyshire County Council Full time

Two opportunities have arisen in the Health Improvement Team with a focus on the drugs and alcohol agenda in Derbyshire. Due to new national funding, we are looking to recruit to two posts:

- one post will concentrate on engagement and activity supporting adults in recovery, with a specific focus on developing the voice of lived experience to build a robust recovery community, influence treatment and recovery systems and services, and promote services and support via various routes including social media and the GRID website
- one post will focus on developing and increasing the treatment service workforce, from volunteering to apprenticeships, training and placements for professionals, and pathways into employment for people with lived experience of substance use and treatment. A robust and resilient “home-grown” workforce is needed across the whole system (both adult and children’s services) to meet the government’s aspiration of delivering world class treatment and recovery

This is an exciting time to be part of a high profile, fast-paced and nationally funded area of work with a diverse and passionate team.

Due to governmental funding, these posts will be fixed term for two years initially, with future funding decisions determining continuation.

**Outline of post holder roles and responsibilities**

**Grade 12 Workforce Development**
- Develop a workforce strategy alongside provider partners to develop resilience in recruitment and retention of staff within provider services
- Work with national colleagues (OHID, HEE etc) to translate national ambitions into robust local actions
- Work with educational establishments to increase knowledge of careers within substance misuse services and develop opportunities for study and work placements for professional qualifications within substance misuse services
- Support providers to develop staff retention schemes including attractive internal career progression, meaningful training packages and attractive working conditions
- Develop toolkits for use by substance misuse provider partners to support development of effective volunteer and peer mentoring programmes
- Support provider partners to create meaningful opportunities for volunteers and peer mentor programmes to add value to existing commissioned services
- Support the training and development of substance misuse provider partners to enable all services to embed and benefit from volunteer and peer mentor resources

**Grade 12 Recovery and Lived Experience**
- Develop toolkits for use by substance misuse provider partners to engage and promote the service user voice
- Support provider partners to empower service users to inform and influence service commissioning, delivery and improvement
- Work with and expand the recovery community in all its forms both in small localities and across the county
- Support the ambition towards being a recovery orientated system of care
- Develop GRID (Growing Recovery in Derbyshire) including the GRID website, GRID voices and any future developments around local recovery services and support
- Support the training and development of substance misuse provider partners to enable staff teams to have the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to create a vibrant service user voice
- Work in partnership to develop diverse ways and opportunities to allow the voices of lived experience to be heard by all local organisations who make decisions which impact on those who experience substance misuse (users, families, communities)
