**What's involved with this role**:

A Recycling Depot Operative is required to undertake duties including unloading, sorting, storage, baling and loading of recycling materials. Working hours are Mon-Thurs: 7am - 3pm and Friday: 7am - 2:30pm. Bank Holidays will be required to be worked.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist drivers with the unloading of recycling vehicles including traffic management, reversing assistant and banksman duties.
- Quality inspection and pre-sorting of recycling materials.
- Operation of materials separation equipment, balers and other plant and machinery required for the unloading, sorting, storage, baling and loading of recycling materials.
- Carry out daily inspections of plant and machinery and record and report all defects to the Recycling Depot Charge hand.
- Undertake scheduled maintenance of equipment and machinery.
- Work in accordance with all safe working procedures, risk assessments, Council policies and employee responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
- Maintain the Recycling Depot to a high standard of cleanliness including loading bays, equipment, skips and site perimeter.
- Work as part of the team to carry out tasks assigned by the Senior Waste Management Officer and Recycling Depot Charge hand at the Recycling Depot or other sites as required.

**Qualifications**:

- Basic literacy skills.
- Machine Operation Competence Certificate in the use of Telehandler or Forklift desirable.

**Experience**:

- Previous experience in a similar role.
- Experience of working in a team environment.
- Experience of manual work.
- Understanding of site health & safety issues.
- Experience and understanding of waste management operations desirable.

**Skills & Abilities**:

- Self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work as part of a team.
- Able to engage confidently with users of the depot to communicate site procedures, operations and safety instructions.
- The post involves working both indoors and outdoors and the applicant must be prepared to work in inclement weather and indoor waste handling areas.
- Maintain a level of fitness necessary to carry out the physical duties of the post such as walking and heavy lifting.
