Cambian Hartlepool School is an independent, DfE-registered, co-educational day school, providing specialist education for up to 18 students, aged 11-17 years.

Hartlepool School and vocational centre exists in order to provide academic and learning opportunities for students who have previously struggled in mainstream schools. Students placed here will normally have recognised social, emotional and behavioural attributes (SEMH). The School provides a nurturing environment that is set up to meet the individual needs of these students.

Pupils who attend Hartlepool School follow the National Curriculum and we also have facilities to offer an alternative curriculum designed to meet the individual needs of our young people should this be appropriate.

Full Time 37 hrs per week - Term Time Only (Salary Competitive depending on experience)

Purpose of the role:
To work in the educational area providing teaching, guidance, support and encouragement to young people in a variety of settings including the classroom, education and, where appropriate, off site activities. The job involves enabling our young people to develop by providing academic, physical and emotional support. The role is about working as part of a team to maintain a stable, happy and caring environment that puts the health, safety and welfare of our young people first. Important qualities of this role are being a good role model and conducting yourself in a professional manner at all times whilst on duty or representing the company at outside events.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
- To provide high quality teaching and learning opportunities
- To show flexibility and differentiation when working across all ability levels
- To provide structured learning opportunities through effective classroom management
- To ensure that all students are working towards their agreed accreditations
- To use a variety of teaching approaches and activities to develop students’ learning through planned intervention and independent learning opportunities both within the school environment and more inclusive community contexts
- To support and contribute to the School’s total communication approach
- To offer teaching opportunities, which give concrete learning experiences
- To maintain effective partnerships with parent/carers to promote students’ learning and to provide information to parents about targets, achievements and progress
- To help produce quality displays around the School and ensure that they are updated regularly.
- To assist students upon arrival, during the morning routines, lunch/break times and upon departure
- Guiding students in carrying out the work set by the teacher (this may be as the person in charge of a small group with no teacher present or in some cases 1-2-1)
- Assisting with therapy programmes
- Support in the upkeep of teaching resources and ensure that the classroom environment is supportive of each learners needs
- Supervise and provide support for all students ensuring their safety and access to learning activities
- Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education and Behaviour Plans
- Establish constructive relationships with students and interact with them according to individual needs
- Promote the well-being and acceptance of all students
- Encourage students to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
- Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence

Fully supported 6-month probationary period
