**Description**:
**Our Content Team**
FreeAgent’s Content team takes complex information and turns it into compelling writing for our customers. We’re focused on communicating in an engaging way but also the clearest possible, so our customers feel empowered, not confused. We're a creative bunch and often identify emergent issues to tell our customers about, whilst also flexing FreeAgent's tone of voice to bring our brand to life, and now and again a smile to our customers' faces.
As Managing Editor you’ll combine your writing expertise and commercial acumen to expertly manage our team of writers, setting them up for success to create excellent, engaging content that supports FreeAgent’s business objectives.
**The role**
Through the strategy, guidance and frameworks you shape, you’ll foster a centre of content excellence that meets our marketing objectives and supports customers with the content it crafts. You’ll hold a holistic view of the activity the team undertakes across a range of activity and customer channels, from raising awareness of FreeAgent to acquiring, engaging and supporting customers. Across all content, you’ll expertly use our tone of voice to ensure it resonates with our distinctive brand values and mine your journalistic instincts to raise our profile as a thought leader.
**Day to day responsibilities**
- To lead, support, coach and develop our team of writers, creating a positive environment that allows them to excel and nurtures their development and career progression
- To edit, proof and sign off content as required, including ‘higher risk’, complex, knowledge-based, print and some advertising projects
- To shape, implement and optimise our content strategy - in collaboration with your team, Head of Content and key stakeholders - and keep it fresh and up to date so it continually meets evolving business needs
- In partnership with the Head of Content to define best practice for content, creating clarity for the team and ensuring all content is of an excellent standard, and that it meets business objectives, is accurate, and complies with any relevant regulation or policies
- To expertly use, and coach the team in their use of, our brand and tone of voice so that it positively and impactfully sets us apart from our competitors and amplifies our brand values, and dial this up or down depending on the nature of the content we are delivering
- To identify new strategic topics or respond to emerging, high-impact issues driven by external events, and to create clarity for the business in these areas
- To use your excellent journalistic instincts to identify areas of interest and get to the heart of a story through a mix of thought leadership and analytical content
- To equip yourself with an in-depth understanding of our product and use this to maximise the impact of our content in meeting business needs
- To analyse the performance of our content and monitor external trends, in collaboration with your team, in order to both optimise results and highlight areas of potential opportunity for the business
- To monitor, review and develop frameworks and ways of working that support the high standards of content work we aim to deliver, and to create simplicity for the team
- To collaborate with senior stakeholders and your team to plan the timely and realistic delivery of work
**You**:
**Ideally we're looking for**
- Experienced team manager who can successfully lead, coach, support and develop staff, creating an environment where they are happy and able to excel
- Experienced content leader and editor with a commercial outlook and established track record of delivering against business objectives, who can spot opportunities and shape strategy and activity for maximum impact
- A highly skilled and expert writer and editor with extensive experience in content creation in a marketing and customer support context, and expert knowledge of how to craft content that brings a brand to life and is designed to elicit a response from the reader and/or deliver on a specific marketing or support objective
- Passion for maintaining the highest editorial standards and commitment to creating clarity through laser-focused, beautifully crafted copy
- An eagle eye for detail and the ability to spot every opportunity to improve copy through editing and proofreading techniques
- An expert, rock-solid grasp of spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Experience in making well-judged editorial decisions and how to position editorial feedback for other writers
- A positive and effective problem-solver who can work strategically and pragmatically with other stakeholders to find solutions
