To facilitate the delivery of high quality patient care on the Acute Assessment Unit by assisting the unit staff in carrying out various administrative and clerical duties.

If you have excellent computer skills, good communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in this busy environment then we would like to hear from you.

Help patients, relatives and colleagues by dealing with telephone and face to face enquiries in a constructive and sympathetic manner referring to the appropriate person where necessary.

Providing comprehensive Health Records, reception and administrative support service to patients and clinical staff within the Acute Assessment Unit. Liaising with all clinical staff, secretaries and other disciplines
- Ensure that all data is handled within the principles of Data Protection Act & in compliance with the trusts Confidentiality Code of Practice.
- Adhering to trust and departmental standards and policies
- Inputting computer transactions to ensure correct admission/discharge/transfer of patients in an accurate and timely manner
- Obtaining case notes where necessary and checking all details are correct, amending details as necessary
- File (KMR1) admission form for current admission into case notes and removing previous KMR1
- File investigation results and all other documentation in patients case notes in accordance with Trust Policy(IMPORTANT: ALL RESULTS MUST BE SIGNED BY THE APPROPRIATE DOCTOR BEFORE BEING FILED)
- Where necessary book follow up appointments
- Ensure that the correct procedures are carried out on the admission/transfer/discharge or death of a patient
- Maintain appropriate administrative stock levels
- Update and maintain clinical databases
- Be familiar with the Complaints handling procedure and provide first line support for such situations.

The Acute Assessment Unit is the first point of entry for patients who are referred to hospital as emergencies by their GP or who require admission from the emergency department. The Acute Assessment Unit is a busy environment housing Ambulatory Care and Surgical Assessment. It is not normally a long-term stay area for patients and we expect to discharge or transfer patients within 24 to 48 hours.

To maintain the highest quality of care and treatment for all our patients the department is supported by a team of Administration Clerks/receptionists who provide a range of services to the team which includes various administrative and clerical duties.

Maintain flexible working arrangements in times of sickness and absence of colleagues in order to facilitate the smooth running of the service

Any other duties as directed by the AAU Admin Lead Supervisor.

Deal with difficult and challenging patients and relatives in a calm and polite way. Escalate challenging behaviour appropriately.

Attend Trust and departmental training courses/lectures.

Attend performance reviews, in which training and development needs will be identified and planned.

May be required to provide cross cover for the Emergency Department Admin
