Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist with specialist interest in Glaucoma.

This locum position has fixed funding and is available to start 01 April 2024 and is until 31 August 2024.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will join a team of 20 Consultant Ophthalmologists at an exciting time of new development and investment in the Department of Ophthalmology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

We are able to offer all glaucoma laser and surgical procedures and patient care is supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic and monitoring technology. A hospital-wide Electronic Medical Record also offers opportunities for comprehensive audit evaluations and research projects. The successful applicant will also join the on call rota for the Ophthalmology department. There will also be a requirement to contribute to the teaching activities of the department, and to work collaboratively with glaucoma services in neighbouring Trusts to the benefit of the local health economy.

The successful applicant will be expected to support the Glaucoma service. The successful applicant will not be required to participate in the consultant on call rota.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Ophthalmology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

This digital system helps to improve patient care and provides opportunities for comprehensive audit evaluations and research projects. Addenbrooke’s Hospital also provides outstanding facilities for research with opportunities for close collaboration between medical specialties. The Cambridge Eye Research Centre (CERC) provides the research infrastructure for ophthalmology studies within the department.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.
