To work independently under the direction of a Radiographer to maintain and support an efficient day-to-day running of the Radiology service. To contribute to the general running of the Radiology service.
To work under direction of Radiographers in the overall clinical and administrative management of patients.
To be delegated routine Radiographic examination tasks to be carried out independently and progress examinations within guidelines and protocols.
To be accountable for these tasks.
To participate in training to update and assist in service changes within designated area. To be flexible and be prepared to work in other areas depending on service needs.
We are recruiting one radiographic assistant to join the team within the radiology department at Singleton hospital. The posts consists of 37.5 hours per week and will primarily support the CT service. The working pattern will consist of:

To provide assistance to the Radiographers by undertaking delegated tasks as required.
Chaperone patients during imaging procedures.
Care for the patient's needs and attend to their welfare in accordance with safe working practice.
Assist the radiographer to transfer and positioning of patients and equipment using appropriate manual handling techniques.
To work in an unsupervised capacity to monitor patient progress and condition and feedback regularly to supervising radiographer in order to progress examinations effectively.
To encourage and motivate patients with their radiology examinations
To manage clinical risk and contribute to risk assessments within radiology.
To work within Code of Conduct, confidentiality and consent.
To contribute to the maintenance of accurate written and electronic records using WCP (Welsh Clinical Portal) Radiology Information System (RadlS) and Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) systems and use of diary and records with guidance from qualified staff.
Preparation and care of patients during and following their examination, as appropriate, including IV cannulation.
Undertake cannulation of patients prior to imaging procedures and remove cannulas post procedure
To make an effort to acquire knowledge across a range of work procedures and practices to effectively assist patients in the radiological procedure.
To demonstrate physical ability to carry out Radiology investigations including manual handling techniques. E.g. use of wheelchairs, hoists, pat slides
To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and provide support and advice to other members as required
To assist in the provision of appointments for patients and to organise patient transport as required.
To be responsible for planning and prioritising own designated workload and manage time effectively.
To participate with the multidisciplinary team in the care of patients undergoing non interventional and interventional radiological procedures e.g. Angiograms, Embolization, Joint Injections, Biopsies, Drainages, etc.
