Bridgwater, United Kingdom EDF Limited Full time

Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater

**Are you an experienced Environmental Professional with detailed knowledge of environmental legislation? Are you looking for a career which is rewarding, at the cutting edge of project development and where you can really make a difference?**

If so, join EDF as an Environmental Management Systems Lead, and you’ll join one of the most exciting and ambitious projects within EDF.

At Hinkley Point C (HPC), we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK.

HPC’s reliable low-carbon electricity will help Britain achieve **Net Zero** and protect the environment from the threat of climate change. It is an essential part of a mix with wind and solar that will allow Britain to electrify its transport, homes, and businesses without depending on fossil fuels.

**The Opportunity**

As an Environmental Management Systems Lead, you will be responsible for the design, implementation and monitoring of the Environmental Management System to ensure the Hinkley Point C project appropriately manages environmental compliance issues.

Working within the constraints and limitations of the Nuclear Site Licence conditions, the Development Consent Order and the various environmental and planning permissions, you will advise and support both the HPC Client team and the contractors in relation to environmental compliance.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to join a diverse and complex environment, working on a significant environmental infrastructure project. **Without nuclear, Britain won’t kick the fossil fuel dependency.**

**Pay, benefits and culture**

Alongside a starting salary of circa £55,000, we’re dedicated to offering flexible benefits that support our people across all aspects of their lives.

We offer a market-leading company pension scheme, paid holidays and a range of flexible benefits, such as: a company incentive bonus plan, cycle to work scheme, discounts and employee pricing.

At EDF, everyone’s welcome and we’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

**What you’ll be doing**

As an Environmental Management Systems Lead, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to;
- Developing and communicating high level environmental standards/expectations for the HPC construction site in line with the EDF Energy environment policy.
- Developing and maintaining an Environmental Aspects and Impacts register, in accordance with the NNB Assess Environmental Aspects procedure.
- Highlighting new legislation applicable to the construction site and ensure this in fed into updates to the NNB legal register.
- Providing briefings on legislative requirements (e.g. RSR, CWDA permits) to NNB and contractors construction teams.
- Assisting in the maintenance of the HPC Site Environmental Management Plans, ensuring that they remain fit for purpose and communicated to contractors as required.
- Supporting planning/organising the HPC site 14001:2004 external surveillance programme and supporting the ISO14001 2015 transition programme.
- Owning, maintaining and tracking implementation of the HPC site environmental inspection programme, personally carrying out environmental inspections as required.
- Reviewing contractors CEMPs to ensure arrangements for environmental management comply with NNB’s requirements and monitoring contractors environmental reporting.

**Who you are**

Your background may include some of the following:

- Degree qualified or equivalent in an environmental or related discipline.
- Experience in operating within a high-quality environmental management system (EMS), conforming to recognised standards (BS EN ISO14001:2004), including the development of procedures to meet the requirements of the EMS.
- Detailed knowledge of environmental legislation in the UK relevant to a construction site, plus knowledge of the supporting guidance, reference notes and industry best practice.
