The Forum School and Residential Home is a 52- week residential specialist school providing quality therapeutic care and education for young people with Autism, severe learning difficulties, challenging behaviour and complex needs. The children and young people that attend school range between the ages of 11 and 19 years.

Purpose of the role

The role of the Learning Support Worker is to play an active part in delivering good quality education (or better) for our students who have Autism. This is achieved through close partnership working with the class teacher who adapts the curriculum to meet the needs of each individual student. Following their planning, you will use your own innovative and creative skills to help the young person you are working with to engage with their learning. Through developing a deep knowledge of the students in your class, you will be able to help provide a happy, secure, caring and effective environment in which learning can best take place. Being able to work closely within a team and independently are key criteria for being successful in this role.

As a Learning Support Worker, you will have a passion for working with young people and want to make a difference in our young people’s lives. This role involves carrying out a range of tasks, under the direction of the Teacher, including helping to assist in the delivery and evaluation of specific learning programs within the class, and care and support of the students.

The Forum School and Residential Home is currently working towards reshaping the way in which specialists support young people into adulthood and seeks to prepare them for possible employment and/or lifelong fulfilment.

**As a Learning Support Worker you will**:

- Supervise and support students in both the classroom and off site in the community
- Effectively assist the teacher to plan learning activities
- Build and maintain positive professional relationships with staff and young people
- Encourage and motivate students to learn and develop
- Demonstrate good communication skills including the ability to clarify and explain instructions clearly
- Support students in small groups
- Enable students to participate in learning activities by providing support, as appropriate for their specific difficulties
- Produce legible, accurate and prompt written reports/records
- Help students access the TFS Curriculum including developing their English and maths skills
- Provide high quality care within the class to the students you support.
