The role

Our geotechnical ground investigation team are seeking an In-Situ Operator to join their team based from the Wallingford, Oxfordshire office. Working as part of an on-site team either on land, offshore or nearshore projects, you will be responsible for operating a variety of pressuremeter equipment and cone penetration testing rigs (CPT) in order to provide high quality soil data resulting in accurate geological profiles of our clients’ ground investigation sites.

Who you’ll be working with:
Working as part of an on-site team, you will work closely with drillers and site managers on a daily basis to ensure the necessary tests are carried out as required. Once trained the position is independent and requires a self starter with the ability to work under our own initiative.

Here’s what a typical day would be like:

- Ensuring correct equipment is transported safely and efficiently to Clients’ sites
- Setting-up and inspecting and calibrating on site equipment
- Operating CPT Rigs and downhole pressure meters, including High Pressure Dilatometer, Self-Boring Pressure meters and Cone Pressure meters
- Routine maintenance of all equipment
- Completing project reports and timesheets

Who we’re looking for:
Essential
- Whilst no particular qualifications are required for this role, an interest or background in geology, mechanics and / or electronics are required.
- Full driving licence
- Strong English language communication skills
- Flexibility and adaptability, specifically in response to accommodating changes in day to day work. Ability to prioritise and deal with multiple tasks and seeks opportunities for improvement through change
- Demonstrable teamwork skills
- Flexible, willing to travel nationally and internationally and stay away from home. Weekends and night-shift working may be required on some occasions.

Desirable
- Geology or Earth Science degree or similar qualification
