**Job description**:
You will have the opportunity to lead the reporting on a programme within the Government Major Projects Portfolio and to get good commercial exposure. You will champion a value for money culture and embed a robust financial planning management and control regime. We are seeking a high calibre finance professional to provide financial analysis, advice, challenge and assurance in order to facilitate effective strategic decision making.

Responsibilities will include:

- Leading Financial Planning and Analysis for your programme, by developing a firm understanding of the change being delivered to ensure insight can be provided to senior leaders. This includes identifying cost drivers and the causes of demand to inform decisions on spend and influence strategy.
- Partnering Programme Directors, Project Leads and their teams as a trusted adviser providing 'real time' support to deliver costs effectively, driving value and setting standards to meet government priorities. This includes supporting the development of Programme business cases, leading on costings and ensuring value for money.
- Delivering accurate, insightful information at pace and tailored to your audience’s need, including regular reporting to Programme Board, The Treasury and Cabinet office as well as supporting responses to parliamentary questions, Accounting Officer Advice and briefings to the Director General/ ministers.

The successful applicant will be a strong leader who is an effective communicator and is able to quickly build collaborative relationships with a range of partners.

Working closely with delivery, commercial and policy colleagues, you have the opportunity to influence decision making and drive value for money from design through to delivery.

We are looking for you to come up with innovative solutions to problems, using data and financial analysis to drive effective decisions.

We want you to thrive whilst working at pace, you'll be leading and mentoring your team to delivery key monthly tasks. You get to work collaboratively in a team of financial professionals, overseeing the work of others, and excitingly, get to support their development

Whilst recognising change as an opportunity to deliver efficiency and innovation, you'll also need to identify to the chance to protect, drive and add value. We want you to be comfortable communicating internal control and governance procedures, acting as the first line of defence for financial management.

**Essential Criteria**

Crucially we are looking for you to:

- Be CCAB qualified accountant or equivalent or be willing to work towards a finance qualification
- Be a credible and authentic leader, with the ability to articulate vision, engage and motivate to deliver results
- Be highly organised and able to deliver at pace
- Be able and willing to make difficult decisions and stand by them, communicating effectively to inspire colleagues and stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes
- Be able to build a network of relationships across organisational boundaries that support collaborative working in order to deliver, working with stakeholders in a constructive way

**Desirable Criteria**
- Prior experience working in a business partnering or strategic finance role is desirable
- Significant experience working in a senior finance role is desirable
- Proven skills to provide insight and clear strategic understanding to ensure financial objectives are embedded into decision making processes
- Prior experience providing commercial insight and understanding
