We are looking for a Clinical Endoscopists to cover for Maternity leave until May 2025

The post holder will be a role model for professional practice, exercising accountability and providing support and leadership within the endoscopy team. The Clinical Endoscopists primary role will be to undertake diagnostic and therapeutic uppers and lower GI endoscopy including primarily colonoscopy.

The post is expected to have a variable split 70:30 between direct patient care with in delivering endoscopy/colonoscopy & flexibly within the demands of the service including evening/weekends and supporting clinical activities.

Endoscopy services are provided within the purpose built Treatment Centre at Leighton Hospital where the Endoscopy Suite has been refurbished and expanded over recent years to provide additional capacity and upgraded digital imaging facilities. The Suite consists of 5 endoscopy rooms including 1 digital imaging screening room and designated patient facilities. In addition, endoscopy sessions are undertaken at the Victoria Infirmary, Northwich where there is 1 endoscopy room with associated facilities. The Service is fully JAG accredited across both sites.

The post holder will assist in supporting the Trust in achieving the two week rule target and the 18 week pathway. The post holder will be supported by a team of Consultant Endoscopists and existing Clinical Endoscopists. The post holder will also provide expertise for JAG accreditation and GRS requirements in addition to helping maintain, improve and developing endoscopy services.

In addition the post holder will be expected to support the inpatient coordination team

Take full responsibility for the clinical management of the patient during the procedure including pre procedure assessment/ the procedure and recovery.

Take informed consent prior to the procedure in accordance with Trust policies and ensure adherence to annual update of consent training.

Using highly specialised knowledge ensure that patients and carers receive appropriate health education pre and post procedure.

Working autonomously without clinical supervision, undertake invasive diagnostic flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy and Upper GI endoscopy. Standard Endoscopy expectations to include; polypectomy and diathermy, tattooing of mucosa with marking ink, lifting sessile polyps.

There is a possibility to work towards more therapeutic procedures including; EMR etc.

Administer the following in accordance to local protocols Conscious sedation, Reversal agent, Local anaesthesia, Intravenous analgesia, Entonox Upon the location of abnormal pathology, undertake biopsies, photographs and complete pathology requests as required.

Take responsibility for interpreting the outcome of investigations undertaken on patients, arranging any further necessary diagnostic procedures or staging investigations.

Ensure specimens are sent to laboratory in a timely manner within agreed protocols. Review histological results, taking responsibility for escalating any significantly abnormal pathology to the referring Clinician.

Refer to other professionals for more specialist support as appropriate, to ensure continuity and co-ordination of patient care along the patient pathway.

Where appropriate, interpret and present clinical information to patients and their relatives, demonstrating highest levels of interpersonal and communication skills ensure that patients and their carers have sufficient relevant verbal and written information during the patient’s stay.
