**Job overview**:
We are looking for an enthusiastic committed individual to join the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) team as a Specialist Screening Practitioner.

You should be a Registered Nurse with experience or interest in Lower GI disease. Experience of the role and the programme would be helpful, but not essential.

**Main duties of the job**:
The main function of the post is to assess participants’ fitness for colonoscopy, support them through the process including communicating results, providing a quality service and maintaining accurate records. You will attend Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings and link with health promotion teams. You will work independently in the community but with the back-up of a supportive team environment. It’s essential that you have good organisational and communications skills and you must be able to work flexibly as our screening lists may be undertaken 7 days a week with possibly some evening work.

You will be supported through a comprehensive induction including training and will be required to attend a 3 day residential course to use the Bowel Cancer Screening database. You would be expected to complete a Specialist Screening Practitioner certificate within 12 months of employment at Liverpool John Moores University.

The office base for our screening services is currently on the Fairfield Hospital Site. However, you will be expected to work across all of the hospital sites within The Northern Care Alliance and in outreach clinics in the community.

- Substantial post qualification experience
- Degree or willing to work towardsENB 998 (teaching & assessors course) or equivalent
- Evidence of on-going professional development
- Experience of participating in clinical audit
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Excellent communication skills
- Able to perform assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of specialist care
- Basic IT skills
- Able to manage and prioritise own workload
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Participated in service development and implementation of change
- Ability to act on problems when identified
- Ability to present written information in a logical manner
- Good time management
- Understanding of clinical governance and confidentiality
- Willingness to undertake and successfully complete the Specialist Screening Practitioner course and any other training identified by the national programme
- A good understanding of the national bowel cancer screening programme
- Car driver/car owner
- Experience of using databases

- Previous bowel screening experience
- Endoscopy/cancer experience
- Experience of working across organisational and professional boundaries
